Even when he does have a valid take, it’s a take that people far smarter than him have already made. I really think he is some sort of weird cyborg sent to learn human behavior...he’s just really bad at it.

He turned down a boat load of money from Comedy Central then stayed out of the limelight for awhile.
If I recall, as he was being more censored, he was having to turn over new material and the stress got to him. He felt like the millions wasn't worth his sanity.
I have no idea about his financial situation, but I am sure his Netflix specials has helped him.. If he had any financial trouble.
