Yeah, I mean, you’re on 3year probation for robbery and then commit armed robbery. Hard to feel sorry for him even if a life sentence is extreme.
With that said, im sure he is a changed man and good on him for getting out. Hope he can live his remaining years as a productive member of society.
ETA: so the OT consensus is that he should be locked up still, with no chance at redemption after 36 years, despite getting out for years of good behavior and changed laws? If this was any of y'alls brother or son, I'm sure you would feel exactly the same

Life in Prison/36 years is extremely ridiculous, but I also don't have a lot of sympathy for repeat offenders.
We can have laws and sentences that are reasonable and make sense, while at the same time not letting people who habitually commit crimes off the hook.

I'm glad he is getting out, but I won't get high and mighty until I see what his other 3 felonies were. I'm always torn about these x strikes and you're out laws. They need to be an option, or at least have room for discretion.

The article says the other three strikes were from the same incident, an unarmed robbery where he got three years probation.

His other 3 strikes were from a plea six years before the incident in question. He pled guilty to 3 charges that all arose from the same incident, but counted as 3 strikes.

It is not hard to simply follow the law. Commit crimes and get time.

I went back and found the part about prior charges. 3 counts for the same incident sounds weird. He may have gotten screwed.

He spent years in prison because he was a habitual criminal for years. He will be back to being a thief shortly after he is out of jail.
