We have a Chi-weinee. No back problems. Didn't know that they had worse than others, but I guess I could see that with the long torso. I'll need to keep an eye on ours from jumping off things too much.

My good buddy has one. The fricker barks at everything and doesn’t listen. He is friendly around people but hates other dogs and pisses and shits in the house out of spite.

These dogs are very loyal. My mom's dog is obsessed with babies. He wants to lick them to death. If you treat them right as a puppy they are good dogs.

Figures for someone who talks about working out so much you would have a weenie dog.

Separation anxiety/vindictive. Smart dog was trained to go out, and did. But shite everywhere when we would leave the house, even in a crate . Never again.

I've had 4 and they have all been wonderful. Incredibly loyal, smart, and hilarious. If you don't want to hear a bunch of barking and deal with stubbornness then they probably wouldn't be the best choice. But I think all the good outweighs the bad. I'll always have a dachshund.

We had a miniature long haired dapple for 17 years. Very mellow and laid back. No problems at all with barking. Great pet with the kids.

But the weird thing was he did not like arguments. He would grab the pants leg anytime the kids or the wife and I would get into an argument. Also, he slept on a pallet in the corner of our bedroom, I don’t care how quiet the wife and I were during sex....he always knew and demanded to be in the bed with us.

I’ve been around 4 short hair through my parents and sister and all have been similar. They are not on average ‘great’ with kids. Many of them get scared and bite due to their size and kids being overly aggressive with them. The males get scared and piss themselves. Both sexes are hard to potty train.

As said, great barkers if you want that otherwise horrible. They bark at crap like hearing the garbage truck down the street. Stuff you don’t hear or is not anywhere close.

You have to train them hard where to sleep because as said they like to get under blankets. Their cold little wet noses will poke your lower back and bare legs trying to snuggle up close in the middle of the night.

I love sitting on my back porch enjoying a cold beverage without being constantly barked at more than I love dogs.

My two rescue dogs know not to bark back.

We had a miniature short hair growing up. Never barked unless someone was at the door but once inside the door she was fine. She did do an excited pee for people she liked but didn't see everyday so when friends came over they had to pet her outside first. Super friendly to people, she hated other dogs though. Lived to 13 and never had back issues but it is a common problem with them. Overall would recommend

I've had three over the years. Yes they can be stubborn, and yes they can have back problems, but the back problems can happen at any age. Main thing is don't let them jump a whole lot like up on the couch or down or anything like that.

Also don't let them get fat, that adds extra pressure to their back which is no good.

Other than that they are great loyal dogs, Dachshund = Badger Dog in German.

They are great dogs. Loyal, good with kids. Great personality. They can be a little hard headed. I have had mine for 13 years and when it is her time to go to heaven, I will definitely stick with this breed.

We rescued one about 8 years ago, just lost him last year. Only health issue we had with him over the time we had him was his teeth. He had horrible teeth/breath when we got him and had to have several pulled. Other than that he was a great dog. Really only barked when the doorbell rang.

Definitely keep an eye on them for jumping up and down off things. That's what caused us to have to put ours down. He jumped down off the couch one day and landed funny somehow. His back legs got really wobbly, and within about 5 min of that jump; he'd lost all use of them.

I got my long haired piebald when I was 21 and at LSU. My gf at the time wanted a dog and I succumbed. Best decision of my life. 13 years later and he’s still healthy and happy. Only problem is the barking which only happens when my wife comes home (due to extreme excitement), someone knocks on the door, or he hears an uncommon noise. He knows barking is wrong and stops fairly quickly. Potty training is tough when they are puppies but once it clicks, they are good. He begs to get in bed with us every night and is allowed to if either my wife or I are out of town but it’s too damn hot with him in there if we are both home. Other than that, he loves his bed.

When my boy passes on, I’ll take a break from having a dog. No telling how long it will take to get over. I fully recommend a dachshund.

Any dog bred to get after badgers is awesome!

Seriously - I don't have one but friends do.

Easy to train - smart
Good with people
Very good personality
Loving/loyal
Long life expectancy 12-16 years

Depending on long or short hair - shedding
keeping them entertained
not real good with other breed dogs

We have 2 labs and ours was great with them . Had the labs 4 and 5 years before we got the Chiweenie. The Chiweenie fit right in with them without issue at all.

We have a little dog that's like 95% dachshund. It's my fiancee's dog but I love that little fricker. hardly ever barks, which apparently is rare for dachshunds.

He does this thing where he gets on his hind legs and stands up like a meerkat. It's hilarious and never gets old.

There's one table that he'll piss on every time we leave if we don't close the door to that room, but other than that he's perfect.
