Ours was a puppy when a little kid get rough playing with him. After that, he hated kids. Even a baby crying on TV would set him off in a furious rage.
He killed a couple of squirrels and disemboweled a rat that ventured too far onto open ground. He ran their asses down and crushed their bones before they could get to a tree or cover. I witnessed one, and the sound of those squirrel bones snapping in his jaws was remarkable.
They can be good watchdogs because they will usually bark at anyone who comes near the house, and their bark sounds like it's from a much bigger dog.
We also dealt with the back issue. He was actually young when it happened. Recovered without surgery, but it took lots of time and care from us for weeks.
If my wife brought home another one, I'd probably move out.

Kid wants wiener dog for birthday
If you are in a beater van with candy hand painted on the side, nobody wants to see your wiener, you dog!
That being said they are good mousers and fun dogs.

The one we had was more like a cat than a dog.
Slept all day, stunk like a hound, great mouser in the yard, but nothing like a regular lapdog.

mine are fiercely loyal but lovable little frickers. they want to be next to you on the couch at all times, and insist on a bite of anything you are eating.
if you come over and do not acknowledge them quickly, they will bark at you non stop until you do. my friends know to pet them first before doing anything else
Mine are both over 10. One has back issues now and then, but has cleared up quickly with steroids and sleeping pills. 10/10
