I had a Red Piebald Minature years ago. I loved that dog. He was super friendly with everyone, but had too much energy around other dogs sometimes. He would aggravate them until they snapped at him. He was goofy and had tons of personality. He would watch TV in my recliner sitting like a person and would sleep in our bed on his back with just his hind quarters sticking out from under the covers.

He was tough to potty train and he had separation anxiety when we’d leave him home. He’d chew things to show he was mad at us for leaving him.

My exwife kept him when we separated and he was allegedly stolen when he was at her Dad’s house. I’m not convinced that was what actually happened to this day.

My ex had one. It jumped off the couch and fricked it's back up at 3 years old. I had to build fricking ramps on to all of the furniture because her (my ex's) pussy was that good.

Back issues, often significant, are a major problem with the breed

You gotta get one with a chromed rear trunnion and weld-in subframe connectors.

Trust me, it's worth the additional up-front cost.

We have three long haired dachshunds. They are chill as hell and no problems whatsoever. Low maintenance. Good dog for children.

Fun fact: dachshunds were bred many years ago to hunt badgers, hence their long narrow frames that can get into their holes(dens). As a result, dachshunds love to burrow under blankets and comforters, especially in the dark.

Get ready to get barked at while walking into your own home. Kids love them though.

My brother had one. Annoying AF IMO as it barked at everything. It was a nice enough dog, but I would never own one. They have a bunch of back issues too obviously.

If she wants a long, short dog I would get a Corgi. Corgis >>>

I love dogs.

My neighbors have two Wiener dogs.

I would strangle the life out of them with my bare hands if given the chance. They are the dumbest/ most annoying dogs out of the entire species. Bark non stop.

I’m thinking about buying a pit bull and “accidentally” putting it in the wrong back yard.

Our vet said the worst dog bite he’s ever seen was from a wiener dog. They were bred to catch badgers in their tunnels hence their long backs.

What’s bad about them is due to their long backs they prone to slipped discs which will put you in a bind of either paying a huge surgery bill and dealing with a long rehab, or sending Fido on his way across the Rainbow Bridge. I speak from experience and will never own the breed or any long back breed again.

Had family members who owned several. Worst dogs ever. Bark at everything and everyone and one of them would even nip at people who got too close to certain members of the family

Get your kid a lab or a German Shepherd - those are good dogs

Good. They bark at everything. Nobody will break in unnoticed. They will kill any rodents around your house. Super friendly and playful.

Bad. Health issues. Mine is 3.5 years and has been healthy but most start to have back problems around 3/4
