Buying new? Used? Library card? Kindle?

I’ve found some really good deals buying used books for pleasure and work. Just curious how you fiends are doing things.

Pretty much all Kindle these days. I refused to get one until 4-5 years ago, but once I broke down and bought one on a prime day sale I never looked back. Just too convenient for trips and as a space saver.

I still go to b&n and buy the book. I love seeing everything on my bookshelves from the years. But these damn $20 books might change my mind soon.

Literally just broke down and bought a kindle book for the first time (Have a bit of downtime at work so will just pull it up on my computer).

Being that I'm trying to get a good build-up of books at home, not buying a physical copy is killing me on the inside at the moment.

Buying new from the bookstore. I enjoy taking my daughter to B&N where we'll grab drinks at Starbucks and wander around the store for an hour or so.

I usually buy new, but do a lot of research into the books so kind of know that I'll want to keep them.

Amazon has such good deals floating around you can almost always find a paperback for a good deal if you are patient and have different options of what you want to read. Feel like I rarely pay more than $8 a book in that sort of scenario.

I also still enjoy going to the bookstore and flipping through things so buy new that way.

This is what i do. I also use Hoopla for downloading audio books to my phone. I almost never buy from Amazon. Too many good books for free at the library for my kindle. The exception is a book w/ maps and pics. Those don't work well w/ kindle and you can't thumb back to find the map or pic easily like you can a book.

Ya, the main thing for me is I still really enjoy flipping back and forth through books really quickly, marking pages, underlining some things, etc.

Just feel like it would be a different experience on kindle - I'll probably start looking for one over the next year though, and a library card, may be a good way to try and test out books / series before buying once I go through the must reads on my list.

So is Hoopla something with the library? Or is it a different service? I have to drive like 10+ hours weekly for work, so have been thinking about getting into audio books.

the two private companies (and there may be more) that facilitate the book being transferred to your kindle or phone are hoopla and overdrive. they will let you download an ebook for your kindle or an audiobook for your phone (that i bluetooth in the car). I've heard hoopla also allows you do download movies and tv shows for free. Both are an amazing free resource that most don't use or know about. A quick read w/out maps and/or pics is ideal for these services.

awesome, i'll check them out for audio books, buying that stuff seemed really expensive for something I would only listen to once.

All of the above.

I love to go and browse the bookstore for new books. I go to the library and browse for older books or books that I know I won't read again. I like to get books for my kindle on bookbub.com. It's a great way to read new authors and cozy mysteries or that type of thing. And there is a huge Goodwill used book store not too far from me. I haven't been there yet, but one of my bosses goes regularly and she loves it.
