I just find it distasteful their first instinct to assume Jake was being purposely malicious.

They could at least take a closer look before coming out slinging guns.

I clearly saw Jake's eyes commit inside before the ball came into the play. He had no idea where the ball was going to end up, and I know that because he was looking straight ahead and not once looked up for where the throw was.

Molina also threw some pretty nasty insults at Verlander and Correa, who were defending Jake.

I hated the way the rule was handled when it was changed, much like I hated the DH before the Astros changed leagues.

I now think both changes were for the better.

You still see guys blocking the bag at second or third, and they leave themselves open to being spiked or worse.

I definitely feel like Lucroy left himself open for the outcome. I feel like Marisnick should have went feet first for everyone's best interests, but it was a game winning situation, and he chose to give himself a chance to avoid the tag better by going in head first and reaching for plate with his hand.

Old school guys like Lucroy have a built in block the plate mentality. This collision was inevitable, and really a great example of pushing the limits of the new rule from both sides. Won't be surprised to see Marisnick fined, just b/c the call was overturned.

Responses from Astros:

quote:

Love our guys backing their teammate up with comment replies to the post

Altuve's Response (translated): "I understand that the result of the play was not what we wanted but there was no bad intention at any time. Jake is the best teammate that anyone can have and those of us who know him know that it is like that. Greetings my bro"

Verlander: "#fakenews"

Bregman: " Jake was not trying to blow him up or hurt him. It was an unfortunate play that we all hate to see but Jake is not a dirty player. I understand that everyone has an opinion but he was legit trying to dive and avoid the tag."

LMJ: " This is number 1 bs. This play was an accidental collision. It was unfortunate it happened and we all hope Lucroy is okay! Nobody wants anyone hurt and missing time, we are a brotherhood. You have been around long enough to know."

Correa (translated):Yadi brother, my highest respect always and you know it! Jake did not do it intentionally! You know that those decisions are made in thousandths of a second and Jake decided to throw himself inside and at the same time Lucroy moved in the same direction and when they saw that they were going to crash he tried to turn around but it was too late! We all have an opinion and respect, but I do not think it's fair to punish a player for trying to score a race with no intention of hurting anyone! He is loved and respected always ????

Yuli (translated): "He had no bad intention"

Verlander starts the All-Star Game.

Springer bats leadoff, Bregman 6th and Brantley 8th.

Yadi basically said bad intentions or not, it was a dirty play from Jake and he should think about baseball being a game for entertainment before he puts a hit like that on someone that injures someone or ends a career.

Also says if he goes in to break up a double play and hits Correa like that and then claims it was unintentional, what would Correa think. In both those posts he rips Correa as a bad person for defending it. Says it's a bad play and even worse to defend it.

Astros start a 4 game series in Anaheim a week from today. Methinks Jake can expect to wear a fastball.

I don’t think the call was overturned. The call was upheld. So the home plate ump actually called Jake out for running into the catcher.

If all these assholes haven’t looked at the angle from the Astros on deck circle then they need to see it. Jake clearly makes a move before the ball arrives to lucroy and while lucroy is straddling the line, 5 feet from home plate. For some reason lucroy lunges toward the throw, towards the pitcher’s mound. To me, he feels where Jake is going and he’s moving to block Jake’s path. That’s the only explanation to why you would go to your knees on a play like that. So all these guys criticizing Jake and calling for fines and suspensions can kiss Jake’s arse.

He said:
sabes que hermano bendiciones para tu familia pero tu cagate en tu madre

Which translates literally to:
You know that brother. Blessings for your family but you spew shite on your mother.

That’s a Puerto Rican insult that basically means “frick you”.

Basically, Molina told Correa “Nothing against your family but frick you.”
