I could not have phrased my comment better. Point Break is one of my favorite movies of all time. But plug in different actors for Keanu, Swayze, and Busey, and you have an average at best, dumb early 90s movie. The story is bananas, but it works because of the actors. Great entertainment.

I wanted to add that cord cutting and streaming will kill this genre.

Back in the day when TV was crappy and all we had was VHS tapes we would watch these movies over and over either on TBS/TNT/USA or on VHS until they became good to us and we memorized every line.

Now we don’t do that. We don’t watch things 100s of times until they become “good”.

Cheesy yes but "bad" GTFO!

Verhoeven has directed some really good flicks including RoboCop and Basic Instinct.

It was well shot and directed. It was also a bit toungue and cheek with it's nationalistic message.

Black Dynamite is a great movie. It's intentionally satirizing the genre.

Road House is the obvious answer, but I also like the G.I. Joe movies and Transformers.
