Seriously- I don’t think so.
I have seen better athletes and competition at a pick up game between a bunch of construction workers.
Not only do most other countries not give a shite about it but now even members of the NATIONAL team don’t even give a shite about our nation. Isn’t that the whole point?
Save the money and get rid of it

Most athletes these days play for themselves, and sometimes for their teammates. They don't give AF about who they are "representing".
An old coach told me, "the name on the front of the jersey is more important than the name on the back". That's absolutely not the case today.
As far as a waste of resources, if it was a huge waste of money they wouldn't do it.
