Moved up to the Nashville area about a month ago after 8 years in Baton Rouge. If you're considering leaving BR and you're able to do it, I highly recommend it.

Everything up here is basically just a nicer version of the Baton Rouge one (movie theater, grocery store, etc.). I no longer start sweating my arse off immediately after walking out the house. Minimal traffic (sans Nashville proper), people are friendlier, saving a ton of money on car insurance, womenz are better looking. I do miss my seafood but the pros far outweigh the cons.

Baton Rouge Sucks. 9:37 am and feels like 98.

Be prepared to get downvoted, most will downvote from jealousy since they are too scared to move from family. Really sucks for them

I think Tennessee is the perfect climate. Snows only a few times a year, not hot as balls during the summer and there’s actually a fall season there.

I'm as big of a BR homer as exists on this site, but I definitely wouldn't disparage anyone who moved from here to Nashville. Nashville is a great town if you can afford it, and there's a lot of good BR peeps making it up there. Nashville is definitely on my list of cities I wouldn't mind relocating to if I had a job offer there. Good for you

I don't think you will get many arguments about Nashville being better than BR

Replace "Baton Rouge" with "Louisiana" and the thread still works.

If that were true, you wouldn't be trying to justify your decision on a louisiana based message board.

I left Louisiana in 62. Settled in East Tennessee in 69. Moved back to Louisiana in 95. Spent one year. Couldn't believe the regression. Moved back to Tennessee.

And yes, most of the civilized world is preferable to anywhere in Louisiana. This is hardly controversial.

Well you moved to Nashville.

I moved to Philadelphia and it was great for a while but the winter wears on you...wearing jackets or sweatshirts or coats for 7 months of the year isn't fun. Also, the people fricking sucked. Not to mention how insane it is during election years.

Sure, way more to do, cleaner, I could walk 10 blocks in any direction and have every different type of food, multiple entertainment options, anything I wanted, but sometimes home is home. BR, Louisiana in general, is a slower and more enjoyable and relaxed pace. I think it's healthy for people to leave, but I don't think it's right for everyone.

I wish I could find a job as a petroleum engineer in Tennessee. I wouldn't hesitate to move there.
