No it's a problem that needs to be solved, but that bill wasn't it.

Martiny Is term limited Talbot is running for his seat but the trial attorneys will put a well funded candidate against him.

Did you read the bill? It was atleast a start to something. People say that shite every day, well this bill or that bill isn’t it, but thats exactly why we are where we are right now. Nobody will even consider getting a ball rolling.

Do you have a link/source for this? I complain about BR drainage a lot and would like for my blood to boil in outrage this afternoon.

Yet LABI makes up that lawsuits are the reason for high insurance rates. If that is so, then why are insurance companies lowering rates all of the sudden?

Louisiana Farm Bureau is the latest auto insurer doing business in Louisiana to announce its intention to cut rates, with Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon saying the company wants a 4.4% rate decrease on its 220,000 automobile policies.
In the past year, two other insurance companies—State Farm and Progressive—have also dropped their rates, sparking what Donelon calls a “downward trend.” “This reduction, along with those previously taken by State Farm and Progressive, further confirms that automobile insurance competition in Louisiana is moving premiums in the right direction,” Donelon says in a prepared statement.
As the sixth-largest auto insurer in the state, Louisiana Farm Bureau’s rate decrease will mean lowered premiums for over 1,500,000 automobile policyholders when combined with the earlier reductions taken by State Farm and Progressive. The reduced rates are projected to take effect August 1, 2019 for new and renewed policies.

Email and call you Representatives. I emailed Rick Ward and let him know he is going feel the heat on this issue.

2. impound uninsured vehicles when they are involved in a wreck
Don’t just do it after the fact. Impound them when it’s determined that they’re uninsured at a traffic stop or checkpoint. Hell, with the ability to track data these days, law enforcement should be able to go to addresses of uninsured vehicles and impound them from there.

The insurance companies lobbying groups were feeling pressure from State legislatures so they decided to give a little break. Progressive gave 2.2% rate decrease.
That is a whole lot of nothing. I pay almost 9K per year for 3 vehicles with a 21 yr od daughter and all of s have clean driving records.
I believe in a free market but insurance is no way shape or form a free market in LA. Its controlled by Trial Lawyer lobbyist.

That tort reform bill wouldn't have done jack shite to lower auto insurance premiums.
I am so sick of people like you, who constantly tell everyone what won't work, but never have any ideas for what will work.
If 49 states are doing something one way, and we are doing it the other way, chances are, our way isn't working (except to enrich attorneys and POS with fake injuries).

Because Geico is buying market share.
Imagine if we had even more competition, what would happen.
A 4 percent cut ain't shite when we are twice as expensive as everywhere else.

Senate Judiciary A is chaired by state Sen. Rick Ward, R-Port Allen, a trial lawyer. If you’re looking to blame someone for your ridiculously high auto insurance bill, you can start with Ward.

Voing JBE out will help this state but it won't solve this problem.
We need to turn out the legislature, and have a new version with a wider set of business owners, and fewer attorneys.

I moved from the ATL area to BR a few years ago and my State Farm car insurance rates dropped 20%. I cannot imagine what fool is paying $3000 annually to insure a car in Baton Rouge. NO one in my family or circle of friends is paying anywhere near $3K a year to insure an auto.

Driving without insurance is not a felony. Plus, what you propose, it's a Constitutional violation to do something like that...4th Amendment shite and that sort of thing.....but I get your frustration.....

Ever notice the autos driving around with the bright colored stickers on the back glass? They have a grace period to purchase insurance so they're driving without insurance with complete knowledge of the police.
First offense driving without insurance should be a $500 fine and required to purchase a one year policy with no provision to cancel mid term.
Second offence your auto is impounded, sold at auction and the proceeds go to a fund to reimburse Louisiana drivers damaged by uninsured motorist and you can't drive for two years.

You blame the governor for bills that never made it to his desk
Except, the governor tells his puppet, Alario, to kill it. Alario, sends the bill to the committee with the trial lawyers, instead of the logical insurance committee where it has a good shot of passing.
The real story never gets reported by the local paper and other "news" outlets and life goes on.

Switched to Geico and saved $150 a month on two vehicles.
And I've been telling everybody I see to do the same.
