It would be an interesting case study for service companies. We send crews out for 200+ mile round trip days. The car sits there for 6-7 hours. We have pushers that just sit idle in the truck for hours at a time.

The crew trucks get about 8mpg and pushers full up every other day.

I don’t know what’s confusing by that statement.

Some idiot said 300k lbs was the weight of an Ohio submarine.

Any ship of significant size blows that weight out of the water.

Including strategic ships carrying dozens of thermonuclear missiles.

300,000 lbs = 150 tons

An Ohio= >16,000 tons.

The Trident II missles alone weigh 130k lbs each, and an Ohio-class submarine carries 24 of them.

Lol, wut???

That’s 20x what a new heavy duty diesel hauls, and nearly 4x what a brand new Freightliner can handle.

You’re only off ~33 million lbs., close though.

All by himself, the commander of an Ohio-class submarine leads the 3rd most powerful military force on Earth.

USA
RUSSIA
CHINA
USN Ohio-class sub commander

I believe that would be number 4

Not going to lie I kinda dig it.

Gives me the impression of a sort of Jeep/Dunebuggie more than a truck though. Also reminds me of a warthog from halo for some reason.

Does it come with an optional .50cal or laser weapon on the back?

You're right. Due to some security "irregularities" in the 1990s (we'll leave it at that), the Chinese surged ahead. When the Ohios were first launched, they could boast 3rd, IMHO.

But now, I concur in your suggested adjustment to 4th.

An electric pickup could be very cool. Imagine the torque a proper design could produce.

Electric motors are capable producing otherworldly torque.

The problem here isn’t whether the motor could generate the requisite torque, but rather; could the frame and other components take the stress, and could the truck stop that much weight if it got moving? The answer to both questions is “no”.

Reading some of the posts on other car boards, Tesla fan boys can make you chew gravel.

Tesla's are pretty cool, but like most e-cars, they are not practical for a great % of drivers.

I think we will quickly see other OEMs at least equal and possibly surpass Tesla in tech and build quality.

Would be cool to switch a truck from gas to electric.
Driving electric power truck quietly through the hunting club with a cold beer, q beam, and rifle would be nice.

They are truly incredible vehicles. Why are they not practical? Most drivers only drive short distances and a 50A at your house will charge 30-40 mprh.

They are great for a lot folks, and true many drivers only do a round trip just as you said

A lot of us go longer distances, sometimes to "remote" areas. You may not have charging station access, and you may not want to wait an hour for a full charge.

I've always felt the sweet spot for E-cars is densely populated areas with good access to charging infrastructure.
