I drive probably 2k miles per month. Anything long distance you just plan ahead of time and hit superchargers. There's enough that it isn't an issue. More remote areas of the country, yeah I guess that wouldn't work.

Side note: did you see the BMW CEO quit?
Pretty much said he couldn't beat Tesla.

Electric motors are capable producing otherworldly torque.
The problem here isn’t whether the motor could generate the requisite torque, but rather; could the frame and other components take the stress, and could the truck stop that much weight if it got moving? The answer to both questions is “no”.
I realize this, but towing capacity isn’t rated by what a vehicle can tow once, for a short period of time. If Ford, Chevy, and RAM decided they were going to use Tesla’s method for determining towing capacity then we’d have a whole shitload of trucks claiming 300k.

Tangential to this but holy shite the Tesla SUVs are ugly as sin. How did they end up settling for that design

An internal combustion engine probably couldn’t budge 300k.

What about 250 tons?

Any IC in current trucks would need different tranny and rear end gearing. In the end, electric motors have a lot of advantages towing super-heavyweights which is why railroad locomotives use electric motors for locomotion.
This really is beside the issue of electric P/U trucks. Just like cars, the main issue in peoples minds is range and recharging times something that for the vast majority of people is just their last bastion of resistance that allows them a reason to hold onto what they know.

Will that truck just burst into flames for no reason too?

quote:I believe there are 2 super chargers on the route from New Orleans to PCB.
After I load it up and drive 220 miles to the (rented) beach house how do I get it home?
If I've passed a single charging station on the way to PCB, I haven't seen it.
There are also multiple destination chargers in PCB.

Driving to PCB from Madisonville usually.
TBH, I haven't looked for one.
It is hard for me to think about sitting for an hour to recharge.
From M'Ville to PCB, you can get there with 25 minutes of charging, if you stopped for lunch while you charge, it's really no extra time.
Also, if you really travel a lot and the time spent charging is a no go for you and you prefer to pay the gas costs to save that time...that's ok. Tesla/EVs aren't necessarily for everyone.
