Ok for purposes of this hypo, we are getting Lonzo, Kuzma, Ingram, 4. We are drafting Zion and not trading Jrue. The #2 and 3 picks are Morant and Barrett.

For purposes of this, you can choose to say that Ball or Kuzma are going elsewhere or that we are keeping him.

Based on this criteria, who do you want with the #4 pick and why? Does who we get in the trade and who we keep effect that decision?

Can you narrow it down to one and expand on your reasoning?

I reject your premise and counter with Griff telling the Lakers that they need to trade Ball for a high draft pick and package the 4 and other pick to Memphis for the #2.

I take the #2, Ingram, Kuzma, and other picks and take Zion and Ja.

Try to make it a 3 team trade with the bulls and send lonzo to the bulls. Bulls send us 7. Draft garland at 4 and draft BPA at 7

Garland fits more of the immediate roster need but Culver has the potential to turn into an elite scorer in this league imo.

Draft Garland, highest ceiling remaining, IMO. Keep Ball, don't care about Kuzma, trade him for a future first if you can. Nothing in the trade would affect me drafting Garland.

I’d go with Garland. A guy who has great range, quick release, can shot all over the court, create his own shot, and has a CP3 like ability to control and change pace. Can also score on or off ball effectively. He’s a WIP as a passer and defender but the potential is there. His high school tape is really good. You can see why he was rated as the #1 PG coming out of HS. Fits perfectly with Williamson and Holiday.

He’s a bit of a risk but this is one guy who has the potential to be better than Morant when it’s all said and done.

If we are stuck with this trade id like to possibly get a 3rd team involved for ingram and flip Ball for the 7th pick.
That would give us Kuzma, #4, #7, and whoever we get with a 3rd team from Ingram. Not ideal having 3 picks this draft but 3 top #7 picks gives us a lot of young potential. Id also like to try and get Hart in this deal. Sorry I'm just not very high on ingram.

As for your hypo, I would draft Garland at #4 and try to get Colby White or Sekou Doumbouya if Culiver is taken at 5 or 6.

Hunter, built to be a good 3 and D wing. Good size, good length, good defender, can guard 2-4, great shooter. Checks all the boxes.

ETA: If can flip Ball for the 7th or 6th pick you take either Garland or Coby White.

Can build around:

Garland OR White
Jrue
Ingram
Hunter
Kuzma
Zion.

Could explore trading Jrue if you want to go full rebuild route.

Culver has the higher upside imo. He can be the wing that the pelicans have missed for a long time.

I've been seeing a lot of speculation in regards to Lonzo to Chicago for #6. I don't know if Memphis is willing to give up on Ja for #4 and #6, but they have a lot of holes to fill, and I'm guessing they would at least think it over.

Otherwise, I don't see us drafting 3 rookies in the top 6, while also still having the two 2nd round picks.

Based on what is laid out, I say move Jrue back to the point and draft Culver.

I don’t want to keep Ball or Kuzma, so see what we can get for them, preferably either vets or future picks. I don’t want more 2019 picks if we have Zion, Culver, and two seconds.

I am just wary about drafting someone effectively off their HS hype since Garland only played 5 games at Vandy against crap competition before getting a season ending injury.

One factor for Garland that I will throw out there, that may or may not matter to people:

Klutch Sports client.

If we end up getting the #4 it makes more sense to trade it away. In this draft I don't think there is any real value in having the #4 versus the 5 or 6. Re: packaging stuff to Memphis. It's not going to happen. Ignoring Morant's talent level compared to anyone you draft #4 through whatever, the Grizzlies are going to need an exciting player to market around. It's as much of a financial decision for them as it is a personnel decision.

I'd take Hunter. I've heard others talk about how stifled his game was in Virginia's system, and he's got a much better all around game than people think. I legit think he's got the chance to be that guy who everyone wonders "how the hell did we miss him?" in this draft if he drops out of top 5-6.

I'm with you on all points. I think Garland's potential in space and pace era bodes well. Garland seems as if he'll provide the quickest return of investment.

Culver is a solid investment but I think he'll need time to find his niche in the NBA.

So, with that being said. I'm keeping Ball and Ingram. Exploring trade options for Kuzma, but not to pressed either way. Drafting Garland.

The plan would be to start Ball and allow Garland time to develop while coming off the bench.
