How would a guy form Denmark know he was traveling to the murder capital of the world?" It's not exactly posted on the chamber of commerce's website.

staying in a hotel on Chef Menteur Highway is an EXTREMELY risky proposition
The hotel isn't located in that bad of an area.

the area is a shithole near one of the highest crime zones in the entire NOLA area
Sure about all of that?

When travelling to a foreign country or specific city, people usually research hotels and rates on TripAdvisor, Priceline, Travelocity, etc... According to Expedia Comfort Suites in The East is rated 4.2/5 stars "Very Good" with 217 reviews. I don't think the tourist stayed at this hotel as I used it as an example about searching for places to stay based on pictures and reviews.
He likely chose The East due to it's close proximity, less than 8 miles to the French Qtr. The dude apparently had no clue about the geographic area nor the difference between hotels in Metairie, Kenner, The East, or Gretna. Regardless of the outcome, I'm not blaming the victim for this senseless tragedy.
If I was in charge of sentencing, a large makeshift cage would be erected in the guilty individual(s) community. The guilty would be fed to the lions for all their peers to watch, and hopefully act as a deterrent to future crimes and murders.

The entirety of NOLA is an absolute shithole. I’m amazed anyone, with half a brain, still lives there.

I’ve lived in this general area all my life, and you literally couldn’t pay me to stay in a hotel anywhere on Chef Hwy.
ETA: I understand the guy wasn’t familiar with the area and I don’t think anyone was blaming the victim, but if you told me a guy stayed in a motel on Chef and was murdered, my answer would be, “Well of course he was.”

You would hope that more foreign countries would put advisories out warning their people not to travel to New Orleans.
