We are also losing a ton of players so next year doesn't look like its going to be better. Is this the decline of LSU baseball or can Paul turn it around? Do we need to make a coaching change after the season in order to avoid a Smoke Laval-like dip in the program that will take years to recover? I hope Paul can turn it around and get back to what LSU baseball can and should be but I have my doubts.

I don't know why we can't just let the season play out before making these kinds of declarations. If we fall short of Omaha, which I think is probably the likely result, I imagine Mainieri's seat will be pretty hot next year. He's not going anywhere after this season unless he decides to hang it up and he and LSU reach some kind of settlement on the remainder of his contract (which is through 2024).

Me thinks you put way to much weight into preseason rankings.

I am not s what if guy. But what if Marcesux, Hill, Henry and Cabrera all stay healthy.

If that is the case we would be right w State in my opinion.

I really wish this team would have stayed healthy both on the mound and plate. We have the talent to play with anyone and baseball is such a rhythm sport. What could have been...

If we don't host, that's 4 times in the last 10 years not hosting a Regional with one of those years missing all together. That's completely unacceptable at LSU.

First, all of the Pawful homers declared this to be "the year".

2nd, Ed O could lose his entire team to freak injuries and you wouldn't lower expectations for him... so why is everyone ok doing it for Pawful? I mean, Ed has lost lots of players to injuries... and he even had to play WR's at DB. Yet, everyone still expected him to win.

Explain that to me?

Vintage LSU statement...... this exact thing was said after the Oregon state beatdowns last year, bUt oUr recRuItiNg ClaSs is StAkedddd sEC fUKD

Got our shite pushed in all year again, this is a systematic issue not year to year.

If you’re an average 85-90 mph throwing high school pitcher LSU is the place for you!

Too many people here have agendas and they like to stack the deck in their favor.

If they don’t like a coach they ignore what doesn’t support whatever argument they are making.

PM and LSU were picked #1 by some, but not all prognosticators. This was based solely on a core group of returning starters and a high ranked recruiting class.

PM could have told the world we were over rated or he could have embraced the ranking. He chose door #2 so now it’s his fault we didn’t finish first even though the team has serious flaws and many injuries.

Criticism is fair, but the idea that it’s Omaha or else the season is a failure is just ridiculous.

This is every year with LSU sports...in a few months everyone will be melting about the football team.
The histrionics on here over sporting events is comical.

Those people were wrong. How is that PM's fault?

Completely untrue. Lowered pre-season expectations are a big reason why people think last year was a great year.

The truth is we don’t have the guys right now. You build a team around a nucleus and they either step up and lead or you wind up middle of the pack. Watson never took that step. Duplantis is a great player, but not a leader. Hess could, but his play hasn’t backed it up. Cabrera has a shitty attitude. He doesn’t like Mainieri and it’s effecting his play. Broussard and Hughes aren’t SEC bats, but their spots could have been Grayson Byrd and Tanner Allen.

One has a national title and consistently has the team playing deep into post season.

One has scored 10 points in 3 years against Alabama and lost to Troy and Mississippi State in the same year.

You wanna know why one has a little bit leeway? That’s why. And I’m not even an O hater.

I'm not even a CPM fan, but one day you idiots will stop asking why Edward doesn't get the same consideration as national championship winning coaches.

One day.
