Another reason to hate Alabama: they may cost the GOP the Senate and Presidency

first, the GOP of Alabama picks Roy fricking Moore to run for the Senate. this insane person, who also left enough crumbs to be called a pedo, led to a DEM winning the Senate seat....IN ALABAMA. the most Republican state in the US
now, the GOP of Alabama is so stupid that they put abortion back into the discussion as a primary topic for 2020. this is a call back to the pre-Trump, Bush-era GOP led by religious and insane people. it led to the marginalization of the GOP during the Obama years. avoiding abortion as an issue was a winning strategy. Alabama said "naw frick that" and voted the most extreme abortion bill outside of backwater Muslim-dominated countries
they are Roy Moore'ing all over again
in terms of politics, there are not any positives from this law
1. you bring abortion back as a major talking point and now get Trump and the GOP labeled as the most extreme form of extremists. Trump may have to publicly denounce this law (which may create its own issues with the insane people on the religious right and hurt turnout). either way it's lose-lose politically
2. you will moderate the Supreme Court. there is a 0% chance that Roberts will allow this Alabama bill to stand in an election year. your dream of overturning Roe v. Wade was more premature than Kirk in She's Out of My League. so all of this celebration about the Supreme Court being more aligned with your politics will be completely marginalized by a moderation of the court.
if you wanted to go super extreme religious fanatic, you had to wait until it's 6-3 at least. Roberts and possibly Kav won't overturn Roe on legal principles. if you want to attack abortion, the way to do it was to continue to regulate abortions so that your states don't have them. this was a subtle, winning strategy that could have been emboldened with the new court. but that's all gone now
also on a secondary level, if you lose the Senate and POTUS, you may lose the ability to nominate the RBG, Breyer, and Thomas replacements, leaving a new leftist majority for the next regime Alabama indirectly supported.
so you may lose the Senate, you may lose the Presidency, and you may lose the Supreme Court. good job, good effort.

Just a reminder; democrats brought abortion back to the table with their push for late term killing.

yeah and it was a winning strategy to label them extreme, especially with how far Left all their Presidential candidate are being pushed
also, it does't make any logical sense, either. so DEMs pass insane bills in certain states. is Alabama getting abortion revenge or something by passing a polar opposite, but just as extreme abortion bill? what sense does that make?

I'm thinking it will be challenged in court and be overturned by a lower court before the election and then people will move on to something else which has been the case about umpteen times since Trump was elected.

And it would have hurt them in 2020. Pro life yokel hardliners have upped the ante times 5.

If the economy stays strong and Trump keeps working on the border issue, I don't think this will be a factor in 2020

There’s nothing extreme about being against murder of a person. It’s a fairly reasonable position.
It’s extreme to classify humans as non persons. It leads to things like the 3/5s compromise, or Jews in Nazi Germany. You know, other times in history we allowed subjective classifications to define who gets personhood status.

the entire point of the extremist DEM-state bills were to make abortion a major issue in 2020
Alabama just said "Oh you want to talk abortion? LET'S GO. ROLL TIDE!"

i don't know. the margins in key states are very thin and those margins aren't populated by hardline crazies like the Bama GOP
we're talking about pretty liberal states like Minnesota and Michigan. lots of socially-left people voted for Trump there
they will pull a LA with JBE if they feel they'll be socially marginalized or support the sort of insane law the Bama GOP just passed

It’s reactionary, but this is the age in which we live.
The good news is that there will be several other issues to consider by the time 11/2020 rolls around.

well you obviously didn't read OP so nobody should respond to you again in this thread, or anyone else posting similar nonsense

My post is completely relevant. Alabama did nothing extreme. In fact typically murderers in Alabama get the death penalty.

yes. yes they did

this assumes that the stupid law is going to remain legal. how do you imagine that will happen with a moderated Supreme Court?

Doug Jones will lose the next time he comes up for re-election.
The Abortion Bill needs work.Rape and Incest should not be included.
I do support "The Heartbeat Bills" though.
eta: imho,Moe Brooks and Luther Strange splitting votes in the Republican Primary gave up Roy Moore.

You know what, we needed yet another panicked thread about this.
There have not been nearly enough of them.

I’m honestly shocked Trump hasn’t had to come out yet publicly on it.
Then again I can’t temember a single time he had to talk abortion in 2016 which I think definitely favored him.
