However the government exists to protect human rights. The right not to be unjustly killed is probably the most basic human right.

we can assume you're 100% correct and abortion is the killing of human beings

it's still irrelevant due to our current legal framework

the only way to make abortion illegal is to change that framework

this behavior by Alabama will do the opposite and galvanize the framework you loathe

so, again, what progress are you actually making to save these unborn babies?

not symbolism
not emotions
not feelings

what are you ACTUALLY accomplishing?

in terms of politics, there are not any positives from this law

Bingo

Everyone should distance themselves as much as possible to control damage from this. If not, Dems will roll.

It's like an early Christmas present for the dems.

Or is it a decision that the govt has been to afraid to actual make an actual law around?

my argument is to advocate for a structural change that will allow your preferred policy to be the law

in our current system/framework, this bill is 100% illegal

Like the Dems distanced them selves from the Green New Deal?

They embrace extremism to push the party further and further to the left. Limp-wrist Republicans just let them control the message and the leftward movement just continues on, unabated with no real fight by Republicans to pull the country back to the middle, much less to the right.

The reason abortion has remained around so long, is because the pro life lobby likes to carry the football to the 1 yard line, fumble, and proclaim victory.

All Alabama did was take the New York law, and played by the same rules. They went for the touchdown.

MELT!

quote:

now, the GOP of Alabama is so stupid that they put abortion back into the discussion as a primary topic for 2020. this is a call back to the pre-Trump, Bush-era GOP led by religious and insane people.

Infanticide is only for insane and religious? I am not religious in the slightest bit, but detest the murder of innocent babies.

quote:

Alabama said "naw frick that" and voted the most extreme abortion bill outside of backwater Muslim-dominated countries

MELT! Protect innocent life is the exact opposite of what Moslems do.

quote:

1. you bring abortion back as a major talking point and now get Trump and the GOP labeled as the most extreme form of extremists. Trump may have to publicly denounce this law (which may create its own issues with the insane people on the religious right and hurt turnout). either way it's lose-lose politically

The DEMs did this with their outrageous rhetoric and laws in Virginia, etc. they are the extremists not those trying to protect life

quote:

2. you will moderate the Supreme Court. there is a 0% chance that Roberts will allow this Alabama bill to stand in an election year.

And that’s why Roberts is a PoS. Politics should not play a part in judicial proceedings.

if you wanted to go super extreme religious fanatic

why do y'all keep citing stupidity of the DEMs as a reason to copy that stupidity on the other pole?

in what world is that logical?

it sounds like you're so jealous that they got (bad) publicity that you want to do whatever it takes to get (bad) publicity

Just a reminder; democrats brought abortion back to the table with their push for late term killing.

The narrative that Democrats secretly control everything, including the organized actions of republicans, is too much fantasy, even for the Poli Board.

questions for those who are throwing hissy fits and pushing for emotional-symbolic legislation:

1. what do you think has to be done to allow bills like Alabama's to actually survive?

2. how do you ensure the process in #1 above?

3. does this latest bill from Alabama promote your process in #2?
