Yes - they put their insanity our there for us to use as a cudgel to beat them over the head with -

But NO - we had to counter with === "HOLD MY BEER!!" = and completely hand the frigging election over to the DEMOCRATs - just when we were on the verge of routing their asses out altogether.

This is like being on the verge of winning the war, but we responded to a feint from the losing side and sent our damned HQ rushing into a friggin' TRAP.

Screw Alabama - I've been so pissed about this since the AL rednecks did this I am about to bust a freaking artery.

SFP is absolutely correct = we gave it all away on a freaking 1000-1 STUNT that is bound for failure.

It's going to solidify Roe for a very long time when the right was on the cusp of denting it with reasonable bills that a neutral observer could let stand.

Alabama went way too fricking far here trying to get all the marbles and will get nothing.

And the right was doing so well laughing at them and calling them extremists and letting them destroy themselves.

But no, moronic idiots had to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory and put out a bill that goes way too fricking far.

Pro-lifers took hundreds of miles after being given an inch.

I'm thinking it will be challenged in court and be overturned by a lower court before the election and then people will move on to something else which has been the case about umpteen times since Trump was elected.

The right better hope this is the case and they better hope that SCOTUS denies cert after it's struck down.

the DEMs were making their own moves to make abortion a major issue in 2020

the Alabama GOP just served up the perfect foil to take the heat/blame off of them

why do you think it will be old news? abortion being an issue was already in the works, and now the focus is on the extreme-right pole and not the extreme-left pole. why would the coordinated media and DEMs shoot themselves in the feet by ignoring this gift (and allowing the GOP to focus on the extreme-left pole)?

that just moves the goalposts to the USSC and the 2020 election (why the DEMs were making abortion an issue for 2020)

Oh - bullshite - you know it does - and you know damned well this bill has NO CHANCE of passing muster in the CURRENTLY ALIGNED SCOTUS.

We would need at least a 6-3 permanent makeup of the SCOTUS to even have a prayer of getting this thing pass muster - REGARDLESS of how "right" it is.

We are playing on the field of reality - not arguing over how many angels can dance on the head of a pin here.

We were on the VERGE of gaining a permanent upper hand in this matter - and in all other conservative rational issues.

And what did we do?? We began our victory dance on the 5 yd line just before winning the National Championship and allowed a 350 lb nose guard to come in and take the ball away from us while we watch another victory slip from our grasp.

This is friggin INSANITY.

Say hello to President Kamala Harris and Senate Majority Leader Schumer for the next election.

don't forget

they'll get to replace Thomas, RBG, and Breyer and get a 5-4 USSC so there's that, too

definitely the path that will lead to bills like this one passing constitutional muster

I get Trump has a lot of support from pro-lifers than most republicans usually do but he has a responsibility as the leader of the GOP and POTUS to make sure this bill doesn't hurt their 2020 chances.

He would be doing the best thing for the GOP in saying this bill needs to have exceptions for rape and incest and to pass it without them is cruel to victimized women.

He's already done something like this in denouncing shitty congressional candidates that were a guaranteed loss for the GOP if they were nominated.

Leadership matters.

Agree wholeheartedly...if anything a hair more than would have already been harped on anyway. There was going to be much ado about this re: 2020 election regardless, specifically in terms of DJT sealing the deal if he has another SC vacancy. Was going to be a big issue anyway. Plus the Bama case would have likely made it to SC by Nov 2020 anyway, if they were to even grant writs and hear it. Fed courts move pretty swiftly.

Trump should say something but it's highly unlikely he will make any comments on this bill at all aside from the usual flowery pro-life rhetoric.

Trump didn't run on abortion in 2016. It was a talking point sure to firm up traditional GOP support in the rural areas and suburbs to an extent, but it was never a central feature of the campaign.

Trump is not a big social issues President. He may blow a lot of smoke up the arse of the pro life crowd but he is never going to allow it to jeopardize his reelection if this abortion fight goes south.

He's all about jobs, fighting illegal immigration, a roaring economy, good trade deals, deregulation, tax cuts, and keeping us out of stupid wars.

Not a social issue that the right has been fighting and losing for generations.

If clueless moderates like you controlled America, the best we could ever hope for would be a President like Romney. I would imagine even you can see by now what an Establishment hack Benedict Romney is.

Dude, you weren't even a Trump supporter. It's people like you who give us politicians like Romney, Paul Ryan, John McCain, the real Lindsey Graham, Bob Corker, etc.

I personally like the Georgia law more than the Alabama law, but I'm not going to throw a pro-Trump state under the bus over a slight disagreement. The people of Alabama helped give us Donald Trump. When did you crawl on the backend of the Trump Train, SFP? Are you even on it now?

If Trump fails, it won't be because of Alabama. It will be because of "moderates" like you.

I didn't read this entire thread, but for purposes of full disclosure SFP should have disclosed that he's an atheist. I know there are some exceptions, but the overwhelming majority of atheists don't give a damn if innocent babies are murdered.

That really should have been the starting point for this thread, because it was authored by an atheist who isn't bothered by the subject matter.
