I think in general food options overall are much better across the country...but I find food in South louisiana has a seasoning of its own that is hard to duplicate elsewhere....

Kind of depends on the type of food. I’ve eaten seafood in Arkansas, Florida, Mississippi, and Alabama and none of them come close to Louisiana seafood except for Shaggys in Biloxi. Most them were just bland and had no seasoning.
I’ve found BBQ in Texas and Arkansas taste better than anywhere I’ve had BBQ at in Louisiana.
I’m moving to New Mexico in the next few weeks so I’ll report back on what the local food is like. (I’d imagine mexican will be better, but everything else will suck)

There is a place in Denver called Bayou Bobs that has some pretty legit Louisiana cuisine. The owner is from NOLA.

Yeah, there's a ton more options where I live now. Obviously it's not better than New Orleans, but that's a world class food city. As far as Louisiana food goes I like to cook that stuff myself, but there are some decent options for that too here.

Baton Rouge compared to every place else Ive lived? Foods better elsewhere.

The barbecue in South Carolina is otherworldly compared to LA

You'd be correct in your assumption. New Mexico Mexican is pretty good...lot of Native American influence.

I was last in SanFran in 2016
I had some great food there.
But per square mile, the exceptional food joints were much fewer in number than in S LA.
Then again, I don’t eat stir fry and slop like that anywhere.

I didn’t grow up in Louisiana(grew up on the Florida Panhandle) but married a girl from North Louisiana. Met her in New Orleans after she graduated from LSU.
I have never found Louisiana food to be nearly as good as the hype. Found it to be overpriced with a ton of seasoning to cover up cheap meat.
We live in Kentucky now and find the food options in Louisville to be much better.

I live in Tennessee (Nashville) and I don't find the food to be as good. Other than BBQ, Hot Chicken, "County cooking/ meat and three" - all which are considerably better (Nashville arguably has better pizza as well), the food in Louisiana is overall better imo.
There are some restaurants that serve better food (e.g., we have a few "upscale" Indian and Chinese places that are better than anything I've had in New Orleans/Louisiana); however, I've found that the lower key, "Mom and Pop" style restaurants are much better quality in Louisiana. That's the real difference.

I always find it interesting how personally Louisiana people take the topic of food. Like the thought that other places have food that might be better is not only ridiculous, it’s offensive.
The only time we hear that is on here though. I'm a north La guy but overall in La we probably have the big head since everywhere we go people comment how good the food is. As my thread I started the other day about New Orleans we were just there. There were people from Germany there we ran into and they come to NO once a year specifically for the food.
Anytime I go outside of La or no telling how many people that I've run into here from out of state I get so many comments how much better the food is here whether they are speaking of south La or north La, it's almost tiresome to listen to. That's not my words, that's the shite ton of people who I meet irl telling me that. The only time I hear knocks on La cuisine is literally on Tigerdroppings.
ETA: To add, yes I do believe other areas have much better varieties they may excel at as I've already stated earlier. You go to NY or LA and I'm sure you can get all kinds of great food that most of us in La have never even heard of.

When we were there, the chef of Sassafras in Denver was from SELA.

Sorry that you only ate at low quality places.
Seriously though, I know good food can be found all over the country, especially in bigger cities.
I just think in La we are blessed with so many great places from the low end mom and pops places to the high end nice places. As noted earlier, even many of our gas stations have some great food.
I love in Nola how many corner joints that can serve up damn good po-boys and daily lunch special kind of stuff.

On average as good as New Orleans? No.

I don't even try to eat "Cajun" food in Houston unless it comes from my kitchen. However, the BBQ/mexican/asian/and just about every kind of food other than cajun is better here. It's just nature of more people total and more from each nationality. Can't fight the numbers.

I agree, it's nostalgia. When I go back to where I grew up I still insist on eating at some absolute shitholes, even though I know the food isn't as good as my mind thinks it is.
People are especially bad about this with the local dive Mexican joint thy grew up eating at.

I lived in Georgia for 17 years. I can remember meeting up with some family members at Poche's in Breaux Bridge for lunch. I picked out my lunch and with my first bite I knew that I was back in Louisiana. The food had FLAVOR, not hot with pepper but just a mouthful of flavor. I have recently moved back and have not had a bad meal yet, in comparison to what I can get in Georgia.
I have traveled around the world and have had some pretty great meals in restaurants in Italy and Spain. Heck the hot pot restaurant in China wasn't half bad either.

Surely you aren't talking about food that you ate in New Orleans? New Orleans has fantastic food (unless you go there thinking you're going to eat "cajun food"). South Louisiana has great food, but mostly cooked in homes not restaurants. Not saying that you can't find good restaurants but the food South Louisiana is known for is typically home cooked. North Louisiana isn't really known for food.
I agree that I can typically find good food in most larger sized cities that I travel to. The idea that food outside of Louisiana isn't as good as Louisiana food is laughable, though New Orleans is one of the best food cities in America.
