It’s hard to put a price on the gems this site delivers on some times.

Texas has some outstanding brisket places, but only rarely can I find one better than the Francis Smokehouse in St. Francisville, LA. Their brisket (as well as their boudin balls) is excellent.

I'm trying out Blue Oak for lunch. Do they have the spicy chicken sandwich all the time or is that just a daily special?

BR's Lebanese scene is criminally underrated. I've been to many cities who can't come close to matching what BR has for Lebanese food.

Original Serop's on Government was the best.

But the Houston middle eastern food scene is another level. Abdallahs, Sayad, Petit Cafe, Kasra, Aladdin, Phoenicia grocery etc.

The barbecue in South Carolina is otherworldly compared to LA and it’s not even some incredibly well known barbecue destination.

I can’t imagine that anyone can eat that lowcountry vinegar bbq. It’s inedible. I literally could not swallow one bite when I tried it. I almost gagged.

I moved away from Louisiana in my mid twenties for more than twenty years. There were many things I missed: good plate lunches; good smoked sausage; real poboys; gulf shrimp; blue crabs; creole tomatoes; crawfish; boudin; cracklings; grits and grillads;
Satsumas; Tasso; purple hull peas; oysters Rockefeller; muffulettas.

In general (with emphasis on general), California has better Asian, Italian, and Mexican food. Texas has better Mexican and BBQ (Kansas City for BBQ, too). New York has fantastic Italian food. Midwestern states have the worst food of all types. No matter where you are, though, stay away from any establishments using the adjectives Cajun or Creole, unless you are in Louisiana and especially south Louisiana.

What do you mean by "Houston food." Houston has some top tier BBQ joints (Truth, Corkscrew, Killens, Pit Room, Roegels, Pinkerton's, and there are others).

Nothing trashy about any of those.
