Getting Denied To Buy Alcohol While Of Legal Age

If I said "a friend" then people will say "you made it up because you don't have any friends".. So I will just tell it like a story.
It was the Saturday before Easter Sunday 2019. A woman and her 17 year old daughter went to a store to buy a few things for Easter Sunday including alcoholic beverages.
When the lady was checking out the cashier asked to see her ID. This lady is in her late 30s. Her daughter was with her and the cashier asked to see the daughter's ID. When she saw she was 17 the cashier told the mother she wouldn't sell her the alcohol.
In Louisiana a parent can legally purchase alcohol for their children (I think this might apply to being in a bar. At 18 you can enter a bar, but can't drink unless it's purchased by a parent).
This person didn't have time to deal with the situation and went to the store down the road to buy the alcohol with no problem.
She said the cashier was an older lady. Never seen her work there before so possibly a new employee.. This isn't relevant, but has anyone ever had a similar situation and if so what did you do?

Not to me, but yes I’ve heard similar stories at Walmart

Same here. Married friends in their 40s went into a grocery store (I think a Walmart Neighborhood store) and tried to buy some alcohol. Both were asked to show their IDs, but the wife didn't have her purse on her so they wouldn't sell it to them, even though husband had his ID with him.
She has teenage children who are 16-18 and she seriously doesn't look under 21. She asked them, "So if I had my ID, but my underage kid was with me you wouldn't sell it either?" and she was told No, that everyone with her had to be able to prove they were of legal age to buy.
Personally, I think it's BS. (Not her story, but that store's policy.)

I went to eat at a Mexican restaurant with my wife for my last birthday. Waitress asked for our IDs after we ordered drinks and told me that my licensed expired that day. It was a little annoying at first, but I said ok I don’t have to drink. Unbeknownst to me she spoke with the manager and he agreed to serve me and wished me happy birthday.
Truth be told, it didn’t affect me one way or another. If you get upset or make a scene because someone won’t serve you booze, you have a problem.

I'm pretty sure people under 21 can't drink in the bar no matter who buys it for them

It's a legitimate question posed by the poster OweO. He tries to bring light and hope to this board but just gets shite on in the process. It's time to lighten up on him and give him his due as a poster.

Louisiana changed their law a few months ago. You no longer have to card everyone in a group that is purchasing alcohol.
You just have to card the person buying and paying for the alcohol.
