Now search here for any place mentioned in that thread. You’ll get nada. Weird

I did the same. Chicken must have blacklisted it. Not wanting anyone to find remote locales.

But WHY???

I was at the camp tying up loose ends and had a few hours to burn before the baseball game. I like driving, listening to the radio, and seeing parts of the country I’ve never seen. I may have had a couple of cold pops along the way.

Ahh. That makes more sense. I have never once thought to myself, "You know, I'm gonna drive 4 hours to go see Farmerville."

How in the hell do you drive to Pilot Town? The road on the east bank doesn’t go much past Point a la Hache.

robably somewhere on LA 23 near Venice.

We have a camp in Venice. I’ve been traveling that highway for 15+ years. Most of both sides of the highway from Bell Chase to Venice is inhabited or littered with oilfield trash and camps.

You’d be surprised how much activity is down that way.

Lucky man! I don’t think my wife will ever leave the city.

One question: how do people living that far out make a living? It seems like you have to be able to live on very little income, work in farming, or already have a decent nest egg. I don’t see many other job opportunities. A commute to any city would be FAR.

southernmost by car is Pilottown. By boat or plane is Port Eads

Can’t get to pilottown in a car and have never been able to. Pilottown is a 20min or so boat ride from Venice. Port Eads is another 20-30 min south of Pilottown.

Burwood was in Southwest pass toward the end but it has been uninhabited for a good bit longer than Pilottown. Pilottown had residents until Hurricane Katrina. My grandparents were part of the last group.

Didn’t thinks so.

There’s still a lot of nice buildings there. It looks like there’s usually people there (river boat pilots and families.) I guess not permanent residents though?

Those places aren't all that far south of N.O.

Spent a lot of time there after Katrina working for a company that put out FEMA trailers. One of the most miserable experiences of my life was dealing with the gnats and mosquitos fighting for every inch of bare skin before I learned the magic of DEET.

Don’t think there are any residents left. The 10-20 of them before Katrina were all old. Most of them have passed away since then.

Only have a few camps (2-3) now and besides that the rest are pilots or pilot workers. Majority of the river pilots live in Belle Chasse, New Orleans area, or the north shore.

Cameron La on the coast near Texas. About 2 hour drive south of I 10. Monuments include concrete foundation left over from Hurricanes since the 1850 period.

you drive to Venice and then take a short boat ride a few miles down and across the river. you cant literally drive all the way there.

Now you say that, I had to look at Google maps. Definitely wasn't Pilottown. Maybe, Venice, I was 8, you have to forgive my memory.

Sorry about the late bump. It really is either farming or oilfield work. Not much in between.
