Sadly easily 90% of the people who need to know the information in that link can't be bothered to read anything longer than a Twitter post

worth a second posting:
quote:

"Incredibly, I have heard city and state elected officials who were opponents of the project claim that Amazon was getting $3 billion in government subsidies that could have been better spent on housing or transportation. This is either a blatant untruth or fundamental ignorance of basic math by a group of elected officials. The city and state 'gave' Amazon nothing. Amazon was to build their headquarters with union jobs and pay the city and state $27 billion in revenues. The city, through existing as-of-right tax credits, and the state through Excelsior Tax credits - a program approved by the same legislators railing against it - would provide up to $3 billion in tax relief, IF Amazon created the 25,000-40,000 jobs and thus generated $27 billion in revenue. You don't need to be the State's Budget Director to know that a nine to one return on your investment is a winner.

His statement should be required reading in all schools. Not just in New York, but nationwide. I would mandate all New Yorkers read it. Let it sink in.

And the loss is even worse when you factor in the companies that would relocate their or expand to be closer to amazon. And the effect on the economy above the $27billion in tax revenue as those people spent that money, bought homes, and invested. HUUUUUUUUGE loss.

Please God let them end up in a red state.

Let me get this straight. You dont want a city and ergo state and ergo country to have good jobs because real estate will appreciate? I have heard this argument in regards to the "evils of gentrification" Please explain your idiocy to me.

Harlem isn't too bad nowadays supposedly

lol! I checked out Trulia and looked at the crime maps for Harlem, the cheapest place I found was a 2br, 1 ba condo for 199k (no mention on the size, so it's probably less then 1k sqft).

Everyone that can is moving out of Manhattan with the quickness due to the cost. DUMBO's growth has died down a lot (but is still there) and LIC growth is still booming.

Blue state liberals like AOC believe that a tax break is a direct cash giveaway from government, so it'll be hilarious watching the idiots in NYC looking for that missing 3B for muh teacherz over the next few weeks.

And the $3B. was not even real money. It was a discount on taxes. When you add the 100,000 jobs involved with construction and servicing those construction jobs, the 100,000 jobs in restaurants, food carts, 7-11 stores, gas stations, transportation, etc etc etc permanently serving the 40K the campus was to grow too then you are talking well over 200K jobs. Ocasio is a criminal. And quite possibly the dumbest human in D.C.

I thought it was the recent raise in minimum hourly salary but it was worse than that
