TAf would pay for a lot of it, the idea that the athletic department is short on money is downright ridiculous

Sure, that's exactly why the new Alex Box didn't go through several rounds of cost cutting and doesn't still require significant upgrades.

The TAF is not a bottomless pit of money. It already has a huge debt service for funding everything else. The athletic department coffers are piddling compared to the cost of financing a new arena.
The Ole Miss arena cost 96.5 million two years ago and only seats 9500 because it's in a small town. LSU would need a larger arena if it achieved continued success as imagined under Wade's tenure. Further there is not is much revenue in premium skyboxes in a basketball arena.
Folks need to get real. Of course, I could be wrong and the hundreds of wealthy alums and supporter on the Rant could fund the entire deal in less than a month of donor solicitations.

Precisely why he cant afford to pay Wade. Orgeron, his firing of Canada and his extension are costing Joe millions.

I've been to both, have you? There's nothing special about either of them, especially from an architectural or structural perspective. Rupp is actually a cavernous old building with horrible site lines. There are seats in that building that you can't even see the court.

Rupp is horrific. You feel like you are walking to your death with as steep as the upper deck bleachers are

I say upgrade the PMAC where needed and definitely give the basketball team their own workout facility, maybe similar to the one they just built for the baseball team.

I’ll donate to any Gofund me that arises to keep Will Wade. This guy could be what Billy Donovan was to Florida. The money will come rolling in.

These buildings are not disposable
Texas Stadium was built in the 60's and was a very iconic stadium. It went down in a cloud of dust for a fancy, new model. ANY and ALL stadiums are disposable.

Both of these posts are stupefying. In no way has Orgeron been a failure to this point. Finishing in the Top 10 and landing a top 5 recruiting class is the antithesis of failure. Secondly, there's nothing preventing Alleva from paying Wade market value plus to retain him.

How about a list of these so-called PMAC upgrades that were promised? Lot of talk about promises made, but I haven't seen a breakdown.

This isn't regarding what was promised to Wade, but here is an article the Advocate did a couple years ago right after Wade was hired on the discussions and plans for how the PMAC could be renovated. LINK This was also followed up by comments by Alleva this past summer (I think) that LSU is doing a feasibility study and looking at the benefit and cost of doing a remodel vs. building a new facility.

As for the promises, unless there is an insider with info., we'll probably never know exactly what they were. However, Wade has mentioned a few times in past interviews, especially during the off-season, that there were discussions and promises made on things he wanted to see facility wise when he accepted the job to come here. The commonly known things were regarding expansion and a re-purposing of some of the space in the practice facility in order to add a weightlifting/training area for the team and coaches' offices. I think he also wants to see a remodel of the players' locker room and lounge area for recruiting purposes mostly.

Regardless of the specifics, Wade has made it clear those discussions were had as a part of negotiating the job, and he will make sure that Alleva does not forget his promises.

IMO he has earned one just on this years play alone, but giving him one right now, before the season is completed is premature
the tournament should have little or nothing to do with a raise or extension. It's a small sample size event.

Now can the state budget afford to pay Wade, O, and Mainieri?

State budget has nothing to do with coaches' salaries.

2. Anyone thinking that the PMAC will be replaced, likely ever, is a fool. It can certainly be upgraded, but there is no reason to replace it. It's a solid structure in a perfect part of campus. There has been a lot of money spent on it in recent years, including practice courts.

There have been talks in meetings about leaving the pmac for gymnastics and women's bball and building a new structure for mens basketball.

Idk if its gonna happen or not but apparently it's being considered atm. I imagine theres a lot of factors at play when it comes to actually following through with that. Though something drastic will be happening in the offseason tho by the sound of things

This is true.

I've posted about his multiple times now, but I eavesdropped on a conversation between Alleva & the head of BRAF last summer. The goal was to buy the waste treatment facility near the Water Campus on River Rd and build a new PMAC there. It would be funded kind of like how the Shaw Center is, part LSU-part city of BR. Their goal is to also bring concerts into the arena.

This was last August so it's possible the plan has changed, but this is what I heard straight out of Alleva's mouth.

ETA: Alleva also mentioned he feels like the big schools will come calling once Wade reaches a level of success.
