As Warner Bros. and DC begin their search for the next Batman to replace Ben Affleck, one Hollywood truth has become clear in the comic book blockbuster film era: It doesn't take an A-list star for a superhero movie to make a billion dollars.

"The fact is that in the comic book movie genre, the superheroes are the draw," said Mike Avila, senior contributor for SYFY WIRE and the author of "The Art and Making of Aquaman."

"The best choice would be someone who is perhaps somewhat known or recognized, but not overexposed or an A-list household name and would thus bring a fresh perspective to the iconic role," said Paul Dergarabedian, a senior media analyst at Comscore. "An analog to this would be the unlikely casting of Daniel Craig as James Bond that turned out to be a masterstroke and an unexpectedly brilliant choice despite the protestations of naysayers at the time."

"The casting process will begin shortly. We're starting to put together our battle plan. I'm doing another pass on the script and we'll begin some long-lead stuff to start developing conceptual things," Reeves said in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter in late January.

Armie Hammer has the best odds on the bookmaker's site at 7/2. Hammer has recently appeared in several critically acclaimed films, including "Call Me by Your Name."

There's rumors that Robert Pattinson has emerged as a serious contender. Who would be your ideal choice?

Why do they feel the need to make ANOTHER Batman?

I never fully accepted that Ben was batman so I often forget that he was in the role the last few films. One of the worst castings ever.

Jon Hamm
Jon Bernthal
Jake Gyllenhaal

I’d like to see Fassbender give it a shot but I doubt he’d want to hop back into the superhero gig and I’m not sure he’s as burly or gruff as the others could be.

A dark horse for me would be Anson Mount. He doesn’t have the big name they want but he’s got the look and the acting chops.

It's not like this is some new concept. You can count the "A List" superhero actors on one hand. The genre has been successful with B and C actors going back to George Reeves.

I thought Affleck was great as Batman.

As far as pontential (younger) replacements, I would say:

Jake Gyllenhal
Oscar Issac
Ben Barnes
Richard Madden
Armie Hammer
Charlie Cox

could all be great choices.

Here we go with another stereotypical white male as Batman. Why not make a statement and hire a person of color to play the role? #RepresentationMatters

Here's a dark horse candidate, Scott Adkins. He's got the size, the look, the action skills, not the best actor though. Apparently he made an audition tape recently.

in keeping with current trends in hollywood and its PC dominated brain trusts

the new batman will instead be renamed as the caped crusader and the actor will have to be played by a black woman, preferable a black lesbian woman

Back before they royally fricked up the DCEU, I wanted them to cast Armie Hammer as Bruce Wayne/Batman.

The whole DC movie universe blows. I haven't seen Aquaman, but the third act of Wonder Woman sucked.

I no longer care for anymore Batman movies. I understand Batman along with Superman is one of the most popular if not the most popular comic book character from both Marvel/DC combined. But I am fatigued of Batman. I really enjoyed the Aquaman and Wonder Woman movies. I want DC to focus on some other characters now.

Give me a flash movie. Give me a Green Lantern movie that doesnt suck. Give me a Teen Titans movie. Give me a Martian Manhunter movie, etc.

I once read, some years ago, that the number one requirement to play Batman in Hollywood is that he must have great lips.

shite you not. I forget if it was Tim Burton or who it was who said it ... but think about it.

I'm sure the next Batman will be a black transgendered woman.
