If the caddie made a deal and Kuch honored it, what's the problem? Local caddie. Bag carrier only. I'm not going to pretend to know what's "fair" but even $3k (But wait, now it's $5k when Kuch publicly denies 3?)

It's not about fair, man, it's about doing the right thing. This guy is a local caddy that walks back and forth to the course to try to provide for his family. Kuchar won only a million dollars that week and has won nearly 50 million just on the course. He had an opportunity to change this guy's life by still "stuffing" him and giving him like 30k. You should always try to help the less fortunate if you are in that position, especially the ones that helped you achieve success.

seems good. I don't trust Gillis in this at all. Starts shite without cause and changing his story just to save face it seems to me.

Simply put: If it's true, so fricking what? And I have no reason to even believe it's true based on the source and changing story.

What about the other dozen or so players and media members that confirmed Kuchar is already known for this and the whole fake nice guy thing?

And I like kuch, but there is no doubt it's a shitty move on his part.

And the "right" thing is for rich people to tip at extremely high rates simply because?

Again, this is just rich guy bias.

Only one guy says he didn't pay him enough. Let's not act like you know what he paid him.

Do you know all of Kuch's financial happenings? Money he gives to charity?

Gillis is saying this caddie can hardly speak a normal dialect of Spanish which is where the 3k/5k confusion came from, and we're supposed to believe he was some critical piece of Kuch winning? Does Kuch know Spanish?

That being said... if 30k is life changing money for this caddie like your saying.... then wouldn’t 5k set him up well and get him comfortable for the foreseeable future? Not trying to start shite.... if it’s all true, then maybe throw the guy another 5k... but 30k just cause you won a million, which is no where near a mil once everyone is done taking their piece.

Gillis apparently can't understand Spanish, can't do math (he got the percentage way wrong), and brings up all this shite without provocation? It has zero to do with him. frick that guy.

I've heard it on two podcasts and quite a few things on Twitter, it's not that hard to find if you don't want to.

Sure, but that was the agreed upon rate before the tournament. It's just like anything else. My grandpa had heart surgery last year, and there was one specific nurse that clearly went out of here way, including coming to the hospital when she was off to check on him. My family felt compelled to do something so they bought her a nice dinner for her and her husband. This isn't all that different, Kuchar won the tournament, with the help of the caddy. You throw the guy a few extra bones. Like I said, you could still "stiff" him at just about 2% and give him 20k.

It'd be one thing if the other tour players were on Kuchars side here, but many of said they believe it and even more said they wouldn't comment if it was true, but that if it was its fricked up.

If you're talking about the NoLayingUp crew, they just wanted to "break" this story for clicks and listeners. They're partly to blame for this blowing up without proof.

You friends with Kuch or something? I don't know if it's true or not, so I'm withholding judgment. I'm just saying if it is true, it's shitty

I'm more on the "it's not true" side simply because of the circumstances. Not completely, but there's literally nothing concrete that makes me believe this story.

I suppose this is where we really disagree. 5k is still a lot of money in context.

Kuch tipped at an extremely low rate according to all accounts from the tour

He didn't really give a strong denial and there's been quite a bit of chatter that he's known for this type stuff, but theres only two people that really know, him and the caddy.

Not really. I know a guy that caddys at an exclusive club in Miami in the winter. He could make 2k in 4 days pretty easily and the guys he's looping for aren't playing for a million plus

That’s in Miami. A little different in terms of cost of living.

The guy is a local caddie. He agreed to 3k plus added if he did well. He doesn’t travel and leave his family like other caddies. Kuchar also was expected to wire some money. Gillis has no source. It’s hearsay. That’s from a touring pro.

How much did this guy help Kuchar "achieve success"? Was he reading greens, giving club selection advice, etc? Or did he just carry the bag for a couple of days? I don't get paid $5,000 for half a week of work.

Honestly, I don’t know the Atlanta area super well not being from there or living there for very long after college.

I’ve taken a couple month off as well and my game feels broke. I’m hoping to hit a little bit this weekend and at least get back to breaking 75 (it’s been a while).

I probably would have tipped the caddy the standard 5-10%.

With that said, i have no idea if this story is true or not.

Some people are just pricks.I worked in Las Vegas about 29 years ago. A local guy was waiting for some friends for dinner. Got a roll of quarters, about half way thru won $275,000. Tipped the cocktail girl $2. Nobody else got crap. One of the comedians on the strip named Joe used to play high dollar slots. Never tipped anyone. Some people are just pricks.
