Plan on taking a trip to Slidell for their parades on 2/16 and 2/17. I have a 6 and 7 yo and would like to stay in a hotel on the parade route.

Any suggestions regarding hotel or parade info in general is appreciated.

What advice do you want?

I am not sure if this is serious.

I don’t think you will have much of an issue finding any hotel you want. Just look up the route and get a hotel there. Are there many options anyway?

Eat at Southside Cafe. It’s good.

Never been to the Slidell parades but if I were taking kids that age to what I am assuming is their first parades. I would go to Mandeville and Covington in that order. Still see some big floats that are brought in from the city and it is much more family friendly.

Not trying to be a wise arse, but those are terrible parades. Not worth a trip that requires an overnight stay.

The only hotel on the route is Americas Best Value Inn & Suites located at 1516 Gause Blvd. There are several new hotels (Hilton, Marriott) that have been built in the last couple of years but none are on the route.

Best shrimp po boy on the northshore is Pecks. Better than most in NOLA. As mentioned, Southside is good too.

This is by far the best hotel on the route, it’s at the end of the route.

For kids, do the parades in Covington/Mandeville or even Jeff parish. The Slidell parades are garbage

While the thread is open...

Anyone know of a nice B&B close to the beach in Mogadishu? I've been dating a OT 9 (9 after Bob Vila, 5 before he and Norm got to her) and looking for a romantic Mardi Gras getaway to pop the question. I have the ring and everything, $20g's for a $62k ring off of craigslist. Made out like a bandit.

There's a few decent hotels down Gause by I10. Nothing wrong with the parades there. They're on par with what you would see in Covington or Mandeville. I usually catch the parades on Gause where they make the turn off of Front street.

I don’t think there are any good hotels on the parade route. I’d stay in one of the new ones out by the mall.

Front street is a good place to watch and is on the middle of the route. If you get there early enough you can pull your car on the grass between front and the railroad tracks.

Real answer here:

I would stay at any hotel in Slidell. There is a new Marriott right off of fremeau ave. Driven and parking to the parade routes are supper easy so nothing to be worried about. I am not sure when your kids go to bed since they are 6 and 7, but you can catch the parades on any of the numbered streets (3-11) and you will be able to park about a block away. Avoid gause(barricades) and anywhere near Copeland’s(high school trash).

If you want to catch it early in the night it starts by Salmen. Just go through westchester subdivision and stand by win Dixie, south side, or chase bank.

BTW Kenny’s seafood has the best poboys, but don’t stand there for the parades. Very urban.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Look at Curries on Front St. They’ll have room for y’all.
