Welp if $50-70m more than any one else is allowed to offer won’t do it the NBA has a huge problem.

Haha joke league is joke.

Just contract to 8-10 teams.

NFL having a hard cap is what makes it #1. More teams have a chance to compete

Yeah I agree. This soft cap and luxury tax is complete BS.

I agree with you, but do we know how bad AD wants to be in the playoffs and compete in championships year in and year out

I don't know that that happens here. Hope it does though

It all comes down to if AD is Carmelo Anthony and has a great stat filled career making a lot of money with very little post season success or does he want more. If he wants titles then he must go to a new team.

You do understand Melo forced his way out of Denver into New York and never came close to having the success he had in Denver the rest of his career?

I know you’re a moron, but I at least hope you can read.

Dell has to be fired. Gentry has to be fired. We need a coach and GM that will make him a pitch as to how exactly they will bring success to the team long term AND personal success to AD's bank account here in NOLA. The allure of the bigger cities might not be enough to keep him here no matter what. We have seen it time and time again.

Hopefully AD's new agency won't be pushing him to another team unless he specifically asks for it (we know they will anyway) and will get him the big money endorsements that transcend location. Being that this idea is a pipe dream, the only hope is winning.... now. That won't happen unless they mke a trade this year to bring in a star at point guard or small forward.

Ownership is complacent. Management above Dell (and maybe him too) is complacent. Gayle needs to either open up the check book and go far into the tax or direct them to trade AD and start over.

Can't have a hard cap and guaranteed contracts. A single mistake and you're doomed for seasons on end.

I highly doubt that when any of you guys look for a job, the top thing on your agenda is to create competitive balance in your industry. If you are an elite doctor or lawyer, it would make total sense to go to a top hospital or law firm where other elite people in your profession are. Only in sports do we make a person go to a place that they otherwise wouldn't choose to go. Then, if they seek better opportunities when they do have freedom, blast them for it.

I get that fans want their favorite guys to stay, but I think the only correct system would be no draft. Every team has a cap of 50 million dollars plus one unlimited spot where they can give a single player any amount and it doesn't count against the cap. The players have complete freedom, but in this system stars would naturally be spread out. The Lakers would be paying Lebron 90 million a year right now (which he deserves) and it would be nearly impossible for them to get AD because multiple teams would offer him their unlimited spot and they likely couldn't go over 25 mil per year and build any kind of real team.

The fact that FA's dont want to come here and play with AD and Jrue is the issue. Being a top 3 player in the league and you get Soho and elfrid peyton that's not a good sign.
Rondo left, the $ difference was minimal, cousins left for less$. Cp3 wanted out.

The only way we get a star is draft or trade.

That's 100% because of the team/market and 0% because of AD/Jrue.

Also, as posted above, Julius Randle wanted to and did come here.

I'm wondering what free agents you think we could have gotten instead?

I hate to nitpick because it's obvious we have no PG depth, so his injury has taken its toll on us.

And I also get that he played well for us the 1st 4 games of the season(all wins, 11/7/7 on 51% shooting) but I also think we may be placing a little too much on Elfrid and success.

He's going to make us better, yes. But I'm just not sure he'll make the difference folks think he will.

With this much parity in the league it isnt too much of a stretch to say Payton is worth 3-4 more wins imo. He would move the needle just enough to eek out some of the close games we lost this year.

Why? You are pretty much guaranteed to keep a star for 2 contracts. AD has been to the playoffs 2x and still says he wants to win here. However, he wants to be seen as oen of the greats and he will not be able to do that without post season success. If we cannot give him a real shot at continued post season success, he should leave if his legacy means more to him than extra cash (which can be made up other ways). That is not an NBA problem, that is a Pelicans problem.

The difference between 15-15 and 19-11 is essentially a .500 team and a 52 win team.

I just don't think he's worth 11 wins to a franchise over a season. 3-4 over the course of a season I can buy, not just because I think he's 3-4 wins worthy of good but because of our lack of depth behind him.

I fully agree. I'm just specifically talking about a couple of close losses we've had so far that Payton could have potentially helped us win instead.

I hope so I know we were 4-0 before he was injured, but this team lacks the grit to win close ones consistently.

They tried to give that game away last night Alvin is subpar nonetheless.
