I rode it. We got stuck over the middle of the river for about half an hour, too, swinging in the wind.
I was five years old. I also remember the shuttle Enterprise being there. I remember the pelican mascot, the balloon guy who made me a balloon sword, and a stand selling chocolate covered bananas that my old man said looked like shite on a stick.

That has to be my earliest memory. I’ve always had this vision of me flying in something that resembled a helicopter and the worlds fair 84 logo. I’ve asked my mom about it and she said that’s what it was. So yes, I rode it when I was 2 years old. It’s actually amazing how something’s at such an early age can be burned into your memory for your entire life.

Here is an old video about it. Looks like they were going to use it as a public transit system. What happened to that?

Ah, the German beer garden, flowing with Yager meister. Oh and rode the cable cars many times then and you couldn't get me on one of those things again now!

It seemed as if every time we tried it was shut down...
It was the McDonald's ice cream machine of the time...

I did. I remember waiting in line for what seemed like hours with my mom, dad and sister.
Still faster than trying to cross the river in Baton Rouge.

i remember there was talk about keeping the gondola and having people from the westbank park and ride the gondola into downtown.
Posted on 11/21/18 at 11:48 am to MorbidTheClown
i remember it well, although for whatever reason we never rode it, at least that i can remember. seems like it stayed for a while after the wf was over, and the talks to keep it open. of all the things i remember the most was the worlds fair bass tournament and my dad was an official for it. spent a lot of time with Bill Dance and got my brother and i both 8x10 signed to us. framed and hanging on the wall in my camp still to this day, one of the things and memories i cherish from my dad.

Yep. Didn't trust that thing at all. I was almost 11 so I wasn't a pussy, but I just kept thinking about the Huey P Long frick up and applying it to the gondola. Was happy to have my feet back on the ground.

Never rode them but I remember seeing a video of a guy BASE jumping from one of the towers and then the Sheraton.

I was working at Michoud at the time. My main goal was to get to see the space shuttle up close. I was disappointed that we could see the inside.
They flew it over the plant on the back of a big jet and tipped the wing towards the crowd gathered outside to get a look at it.
