Soccer is very gay. But if my son wants to play it, I'm not going to stand in his way.
Finally someone that doesn’t feel the need to be trendy for validation from whomever.
I’m 27 and don’t have kids. But my future kids will grow up playing any sport they want. If they want to play soccer, I’ll support them in any way I can.

It’s become my favorite sport. I’m a 37 year old guy with three kids, I could give a frick about being trendy. I like how it lasts exactly how long it says it’s going to last, the unbelievable skill involved in creating some of these goals and even first touches, and the LACK of scoring.
I’ve always been a fan of defensive football games that end like 17-10 where scoring actually means something as opposed to the track meets we see now which bore the frick out of me. Soccer provides a lot of that same drama.

These opinions always assume that the excitement level for a goal is the same for a made shot in basketball. The entire soccer game operates with the tension of the final minutes of a basketball game because one play can change the game.
Then why play a 90 minute game? Just play 5 minute games and the fan can experience their “tension” immediately and then move on with his or her day. No need to prolong unnecessary “tension” by wasting 85 minutes of your life first. 1-0 victory ok. That could have been accomplished in a small percentage of the time a normal match takes.

Yeah volleyball. Exception being beach volleyball.
High school and college volleyball, even the parents of the players wish they didn't have to watch.

My kids played/play soccer as well. It's a fun sport once you learn all the rules and such and besides like another poster said, my 4 year old wanted to be in gymnastics so dad's at every gymnastics meet and loving it. That's what it's about, the kids. You'd have to be a real douche to say the sport your child was in is gay.

You can make any sport sound stupid if you break it down. Just the fact that adults passionately care about sports is kind of silly.
That being said, soccer is fun. I like getting up early and throwing on a match. I grew up playing soccer so maybe that helps. I also enjoy the fanfare--the crowd makes it fun with the singing, cheering, and groans.

Ok. If you are all for 1 possession football games, 1 inning baseball games, etc.
Most people watch sports they have played. I did not play soccer and only really watch it during the olympics and Workd Cup.
I can see why people love it. It is a great spectator sport. Live it is so much better than TV

, soccer sucks. The only reason you will get downvoted is because some people pretend to like soccer because it’s popular around the world and it makes Americans feel cool and cultured when they act like they enjoy it because the rest of the world watches it. Makes them feel part of the cool crowd. It’s trendy.
Or they just enjoy soccer

None of what you suggested can replicate the associated sport like nothing but a ball and some land can with soccer. Nothing. How are you going to ensure that these baskets are similar height? Have the same diameter of opening? And football? Yeah we all played tackle no pads football as kids, but it wasn’t even close to high school ball. I do not agree with your point. Yes you can replicate to a degree but it’s eaiest to replicate soccer the best which is why most countries can and do play this sport
If you’re going to compare the technicalities of the sports then soccer would rank just as high as your beloved basketball sport. Just like basketball there are different size balls (with your balls being the smallest), each has regulations on the size of the goal and where it’s placed on the field, each sport has penalties where the opposing team gets a free shot at a goal, each had a penalty system that would potentially remove a player from the game and many other technicalities that I’m not going to explain.
The Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United played a few Sunday’s ago at the same time on the same day. At halftime of the falcons game, the United game was already over in an unfortunate 2-0 loss to the Red Bull’s.
The Falcons game finally ended close to 4pm. Close to 2 hours after the United game ended and on game clock the United game is actually longer than a Falcons game.

To be fair to the OP baseball isn't a sport so it doesn't count.

The OT loves soccer now?

I always wonder how soccer would be viewed if a higher value was attached to each goal, instead of a 2-1 it was 20-10.

or imagine basketball or football if you couldn't pass to a teammate that had outrun, or who was positioned behind the defender
this is politically correct sports

This is actually how I came to appreciate soccer. Never really watched it or played it before, but it's the perfect sport for kids to start with because it is constant action/running and the basics and rules are as simple as it gets for kids. My kid is only 7 but he has now played for about 4 years and they are just now starting to get where there is a little strategy with positions, formations, set pieces (a little) etc. Like any sport the more you watch and understand more of the game within the game the more you appreciate it.
Also living in Atlanta, the new MLS team ATL UTD is a pretty well run product/organization. They can fill Mercedes Benz Stadium, tailgate like its a football game, and they put on a good and entertaining show. You are in and out in two hours max too.
The "I'm not entertained unless people are scoring" crowd just won't ever like soccer and that's fine. Plenty of sports for different people to enjoy. Kind of silly to worry about or criticize people for what they enjoy when it doesn't have anything to do with you at all.
