These two are damn near identical, although with the edge going to Evans in the looks department. Setting aside that Evans became more of a star due to Captain America success do you think he could play a more stern/opportunistic character in James Norrington?

Yes with no Jack Sparrow.

The POTC should have ended in trilogy. How often do you get a successful trilogy in movies business...but no, they had to ruin it with bloated and aged Johnny Depp who was on painkillers in divorce battle and just straight out of talent and didn't even look like original Jack Sparrow. Damn shame.

No, POTC 5 killed the franchise. 4 was something we wanted but didn't really need and I was ok with 4, it was still fun. 5 was absolute trash and put a nasty stank on the whole franchise.

Given that his character is dead with a completed arc (and the original actor is still alive)....why is this a question again?

EDIT: Wow, it is looking like they are dropping the planned sixth film finale and IMMEDIATELY going to a reboot? Seriously, Clark?

I think the whole Pirates thing has grown stale.
Why would you reboot the franchise.
You made your money.

Should have ended with the first one. I get whey they went on, but I haven't liked any of them since Curse of the Black Pearl. And even that's a chore to watch because of Bloom.

I still haven't seen the first one. Not sure why I've never had an interest.

I enjoyed all the Pirates films for the most part, the last one was kind of meh but still worth the Amazon rental.

Kind of butthurt to find out they aren’t going to wrap it up.

PotC was Star Wars retooled.

Still amazed Disney has been all over the board when the re-envisioned the OT already.

People hate on PotC unnecessarily. If you ask me, the first one is most obviously the best. The first two sequels are mediocre but still fun in parts. The last two movies were the best since the original.

It's a shame that they won't finish the story. I don't see this franchise being successful without Depp

I agree with this. The last two movies have been solid, if unremarkable, popcorn movies.

There are five of them? I stopped paying attention sometime around 3.

This is one of those examples of why people rip Hollywood for a lack of original ideas. It's a franchise based on an amusement park ride and that premise has been dragged out as long as it could be.

Personally I thought 2 and 3 were the weakest in the series.

I'd much rather have had 4 and 5 be the only sequels. The entire Orlando Bloom storyline from the sequels sucks arse and makes little sense considering Bloom was supposed to look just like his dad (Stellan Skarsgård? WTF?), Knightly suddenly turning into a pirate queen with respectable fighting skills was lame, and they killed the fricking Kraken off screen between the films. frick that bullshite.

My issue with 4 & 5 is Depp didn’t even seem like he wanted to be a part of them. On screen he was nothing like he was in the first 3 movies. Talked and acted completely different it almost felt like a different person. The Jack Sparrow persona made the first trilogy

This. The sad part is that they had solid premises, but the execution and writing was simply terrible.

In 15 years, there have only been 5 films. How many Marvel films have their been in that timespan?

People like Pirates and in particular people like Captain Jack Sparrow. That's why they kept churning these films out.
