Pre-ordered the Pikachu version. Comes in on my wedding anniversary, will be a true battle Royale

I'm sure I will, but not on release day or anything.

You are right. That star wars pic of yours puts you in the 5yo-7yo category.

Im waiting on reviews first.
I was hoping pre E3 this years pokemon title would be a generation release.
I want more details on it before I commit but am open to buying.

I would of got it if they didn’t change the gameplay to mirror Pokémon Go. No option to battle wild Pokémon anymore, you have to catch the Pokémon to gain XP for your party. Not a fan.

Not at all interested in it.

Basically this: I was going to get it and then saw that this is how the gameplay is being handled and instantly said "nope"

Bump for Friday release. Been watching some game play on it, looks fun.

Bump now that the game is out.
Did anyone on here get it?
I was initially worried about the replacement of classic battle/catch mechanics with the Pokémon go versions, but before yesterday's release the critics metascore on metacritic had me hopeful. There were no negative reviews, a few neutral, but mostly positive.
Then I saw the user score after the game released and it confirmed my initial worries. Ive looked only at the user metacritic score (4.8 out of 10 last I saw) and the Pokémon subreddit, but the community seems split almost 50/50 over it. Complaints are primarily about the new Pokémon Go mechanics and that it's way too easy. Your starter can basically be taught any move, EXP share cannot be turned off, you're given free Pokeballs constantly, etc. I guess they were trying to make it safely approachable for new people who may have only gotten first exposed to Pokémon gameplay via Pokemon go. I'm not sure that was a great idea because I doubt this game is going to be a Switch-seller. So if someone's only experience playing Pokémon is with Pokémon Go, I can't envision them dropping 200-300 bucks or whatever for this.
Despite all that, even some of the negative reviews did acknowledge that the soundtrack was good and that the handheld Pokémon plus ball or whatever is a fun way to play.
I really wanted the game to be good because I started out with Gen 1 as a kid. Unfortunately I'll probably be skipping based on what I've read. I really hope that the community feedback is enough to ensure that they don't oversaturate the next main series title with the same Pokémon Go mechanics.

I just want to battle wild pokemon + trainers and grind my way to becoming the best...the best there ever was.

I got it, I haven't had a chance to play yet though. I really don't like no wild Pokémon but we'll see if it's too much or not. I'll send it back if it's a pain

I’ve got it and got the poke’ ball controller, which is kind of cool. But no battling wild Pokémon has got old. When you do get to battle, it is nice. It is way too easy though. If you like the original, you’d enjoy it. Just with caveat that it is so easy. And I think I repeated myself like 3 times in there.

Same. Idk why they couldnt leave the battles in and let you throw the pokeballs yourself if you decide to catch it.

I have a copy reserved at gamestop but I haven't been able to pick it up yet.
The hatred and vitriol in the comment section of every user review website is so pathetic it's humorous.
The game is styled off of Pokémon go, named after Pokémon go, and marketed as a console take on Pokémon go and almost every single comment, including here, is "hurrrrr why is it like Pokémon go! Why is it marketed to kids? Why isn't it harder than dark souls!"
30-40 year old nastalgia driven whiny gamers are as annoying and detrimental to the industry as microtransactions. You people are the EA equivalent of the gameing fan world.
As if the first Pokémon game was some great standard of difficulty. Yall can't just enjoy anything anymore. Nintendo has always been about enjoying a fun game not competitive difficulty.
I never thought I'd see people begging to fight a zubat every 5 seconds in every dark area.
Everything I've read says of you're so concerned with difficulty, put your starter in your bag and only play with 5 Pokémon you catch and train yourself. Just like every other Pokémon game you can easily control the difficulty based off of grinding and choice of Pokémon.

I got to play for about a half hour so my sample size is not huge, but early review of it is that it's a lot of fun. The nostalgia factor is definitely there. The no wild battles is something that will take time to get used to but not a bad thing necessarily so far.
Graphics are awesome, feels smooth playing with the switch off the base in your hands with the joycons. I'm still figuring out when to throw a pokeball right because I didn't play Pokémon go, but it's not awfully hard.
It's worth checking out if you're a fan of the series.
