Got to watching Stranger Things, and I realize that 1975-1989 is basically today minus all the retarded music, SJW bullshite, and cell phone abuse. I've seen an entire table of teenagers playing on their phone and not talking to each other at all at a sit down restaurant. Like, what's the fricking point?

Kids back then used to play outside a whole lot more to make fun rather than sit inside on the Xbox and get fat. Growing up in the early 2000's, I played outside a lot with my friends despite the lazy options for entertainment available and I had a blast every single day.

I'm 24 years old, so this isn't a "get off my lawn" post. I'm just saying.

ETA:UPATED to 1975-1989

Why did watching Stranger Things make you think of the 70's?

That was set in the mid 80s. It was a great time to be a kid.

We have a lot more tools to utilize now and I think kids today are in general a lot smarter. But we also let those tools corrupt us to a degree as well.

It's hard to argue against being a teenager in a decade defined by muscle cars, amazing rock music, backseat sex, and weed

There is a reason Steve Jobs didn’t have his kids glued to an iPad/mini tv screen.

I agree. We had a blast. Playing neighborhood sports, riding bikes for miles, played in ditches, built forts, snowball fights. Somebody's father built us a treehouse.

I was born in 1970. I generally agree with the OP.

We certainly had some tech, early home video games....arcades but we were outside much more than kids today.

It was a good time.

But I also agree that this is just something people of one generation say about later generations.

First of all, that show is set in the 80s.

Second of all, nah. Late 90s to late 00s we're GOAT. The internet was a thing, but it was still kind of slow and smart phones were only a novelty around in the last half of the decade so our lives weren't ruled by internet. Television was far superior to the 70s. Kids were still doing kid stuff, but also still had good video games. The PC climate was relatively stable, where you knew that it wasn't cool to be racist or sexist for real but you could still get away with light hearted jokes.
