The deficits will never be paid down. It may be reduced at times but no one Democrat, Republican, Independant or Libertarian have any intention of ever paying it down. Paper debt get over it.

Cuts need to be made, but start with Medicaid first.

The government made promises it couldn't keep and the people who voted them into power should feel the consequences first.

Cuts to SS are going to entail a higher age to draw, which is responsible considering the SS deficits themselves, and the lengthening age of retirees. Oh yeah, and also the huge numbers of people coming in to the country who haven't paid anything in to the system and are just drawing from it.
