haven't read one reply but you were extremely negligent and the other kid's parents are absolutely in the right for being pissed.

HOw old are the kids?
Posted on 8/13/18 at 2:00 pm to deathvalleyfreak43
First off, how old is your kid....?
Posted on 8/13/18 at 2:00 pm to deathvalleyfreak43
Tell them to frick off and hang up on them.

I would go ahead and notify your homeowners insurance.
Also, if you do pay them some money( do not recommend this), make sure it is in writing that you paid them.

So, instead of telling your son and his friend to leave the dangerous animal alone and avoid the area, you sent them back with a short tool with which to anger the animal?
Checks out.

Did you have any idea of your son's friend's experience level with outdoor shite?
Posted on 8/13/18 at 2:01 pm to deathvalleyfreak43
I assume that you have home owner's insurance? That will cover some personal injury money. Not sure how much. I'd dispose of a cotton mouth with a shotgun if I lived in the country

Here’s my advice to you.
1. Find a nice, soft pillow.
2. Practice biting said pillow.

Bro... you armed him with a HATCHET to kill a cottonmouth? Even with a long handle that’s not the right tool for the job.
Yes, if you’re on the spot and have nothing else, a hatchet could work. But, you clearly could have instructed them not to mess with the snake. Or, if you chose to send them BACK to the venomous snake, at least make it an unfair advantage on your boys end.
I mean, screw it. Why not just arm him with a steak knife or scissors

Shovel =\= Hatchet???
Not every kid that Your kid knows is going to be a little “Baw”. The amount of kids I’ve triaged who tried to catch a copperhead is amazing.

Is the pond on your property? How old are the kids?
Posted on 8/13/18 at 2:02 pm to deathvalleyfreak43
Since the cottonmouth was on your property, it was technically a legal resident that almost killed the kid.
You are therefore harboring an attempted murderer.

Really? A hatchet? And you knew the snake was poisonous and you knew there might be snakes around in the first place?
You and your son failed his friend. And you as a parent are a failure, especially if you didnt make the kid aware of the danger.
Yeah, you're fricked. You deserve it.

Either way it sounds like you knowingly not just exposed but actively coerced someone else’s child into a potentially deadly situation without even the benefit of adult supervision. As a result of your actions, a very foreseeable event (kid getting bit by a cottonmouth) did in fact occur. Yeah you could be screwed.

On a scale of in the clear to fricked, you're probably fricked.
I mean, you gave him a hatchet? Why not a shovel if that's what you've taught him to use?
