shite pay, pay for your own materials, unpaid overtime, zero respect from 99% of the population.
We wonder why our country is so shitty right now but we keep doing everything but fixing our education system.

One way to address this is some employees have the Monday off and some have the Friday off.
I've done 4 10s (M-T) and it is great.

I'd screw with people and make school Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. 3 day weekend for nobody!@

Where were these 4 day weeks when I was in school?

The only part I will agree with is "pay for your own materials". The pay they knew would be bad going in. Unpaid OT, it's a salary job. You don't like the pay or unpaid OT, find another career. I don't think teachers get zero respect but I think a lot of people are tired of hearing how much it sucks for teachers when they have so much time away from work. There aren't too many professions I know of where you get 2.5-3 months off throughout the year.

The job of public schools is to provide the best education possible for the students
If studies show a 4 day school week will provide this, it isnt their worry about providing "daycare" for the parents
But it actually seems like they thought of that regardless

Read about the reason why this is being done:
This district has the lowest teacher pay in the entire Denver area, leading to lots of turnover and low quality
The district has a much lower than average tax collection on a per student basis. The budget was in the red and voters did not pass a tax increase, so cuts had to be made.
You get what you pay for. I'm sure the teachers would have preferred a raise over having extended work days. In the end people are going to end up paying a lot more in child care than they would have if the tax had passed.

Some schools in Beauregard Parish and Cameron Parish have the 4-day week.
The Beauregard schools go from like 7:45 to 3:45, and their school year starts about 10 days earlier and runs about a week longer than the parish's 5-days schools. Started on August 2nd this year.
They started this 15-20 years ago in combination with block scheduling. Dumped the block schedules after about 2 years but the 4-day week is here to stay.

The problem with that is they have no summer off. It's already bad here with them only have 2 months, we had 3 when I was in school.
I like the kids being out of school for longer cause its nice not having all those damn buses on the roads. As well as all the additional cars from parents dropping off and picking up their kids.
There's always less traffic when school is out.

Or pay $1 million more a year in taxes. I guess you could do that.

So instead of paying more to attract quality teachers we're just going with "lol sucker, you knew this vitally important job pays jack shite".

Colorado loves shite like this. Good for them..
I'm happy to let them figure out all the kinks and how it works best and then apply it to other places, of which Louisiana will be last and worst, as usual.

my brother works for Louisiana State Probation and Parole, a few ago they went to a 4 day work week to save money. They either get Monday or Friday off.
He chose Monday, because when Monday is a holiday he gets Tuesday off. And they have a few holidays on Monday (MLK, Labor Day, Memorial day)

should be mandatory they spend that extra day working in the grow and earning income to help pay expenses, as well as bring home free weed for mom and dad ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconcheers.gif)

That is not what I said. Teachers aren't going into teaching thinking they will become millionaires so I don't get why teachers complain as much as anyone on social media, etc.
I am all for good teachers and paying them competitive wages but you don't see too many other professions constantly talking about the struggles they go through constantly when school starts, about to end, etc.

A longer school day fits better with parents' work schedules.
35 weeks x 5 days/week x 6 instructional hours/day = 1,050 hours
35 weeks x 4 days/week x 7.5 instructional hours/day = 1,050 hours
ETA: Especially if parents can work 9/80 or 4/10 schedules.

And on the 5th day, they all smoked weed - while all the kids in neighboring states went to class.
