And humid.

Shitty run today. A lot of calf soreness the past couple of runs. Ran 3.3, interval sprints to 5.

Years ago I ran 2-3 miles a day while working out of town. Haven't exercised for a couple of years. I told myself I would begin to walk once daylight savings began. So far so good. I clocked 18 miles for the week two weeks ago and this past week I had 24 miles. Saturdays and Sundays I get in a couple of walks, rotating with the family members. Sunday I walked on 2 occasions and my first run in years. It was only 1 mile and a quarter but it's a start. 1.25 walk and run last night and again tonight. Front calves, whatever they are called were a little stressed at the end but I walked it off. 9:50 pace each run Let's hope I keep it up! Yard work and exercise, thanks Corona.

I'm not sure if this is the best thread for this question, but I figured someone in here can answer it... Do you burn more calories walking flat or at an incline followed by a decline? With treadmills out of the question right now I'm walking a lot outside and there's a hill nearby. Obviously walking at an incline burns more, but I have to walk at a decline to get back down, so I'm wondering if it's better to just walk flat the whole time.

I’m not sure about calories, but running a hilly course is more challenging that a flat one. It’s the same with wind resistance. If you run an out and back with the wind blowing at you in the first half and from behind you I the second you will still work harder to maintain the same average pace as the same distance with no wind.

In other words, downhills and wind at your back do not erase the extra effort it took to run the uphills or into the wind. There is a certain amount of effort it takes to adjust to the changes in elevation, and running downhill under control actually takes more effort in some ways that running flat.

I’m not sure how that all translates to walking, but I would assume that walking a hilly terrain would burn more calories than flat, kind of like walking a mile around your neighborhood hood versus hiking in the mountains.

I can’t remember feeling as good during a recovery run as I did this morning. I had to fight the temptation to turn it into a speed workout. I managed to keep it in zone 1 despite really wanting to ramp it up. Hopefully, this is a sign of things to come.

Does anyone here have supination? The past year or so I've noticed running has become more and more painful so I started paying mind to where my feet are contacting the pavement. Definitely seems like underpronation and shoe wear seems to validate.

Any tips? It has been frustrating bc its forcing me to scale back.

You will probably get some responses about shoes and/or inserts, so I will leave that to others. I suggest that you look up some foot and ankle strengthening exercises though. Doing those regularly, regardless of whether or not you opt for special shoes or the like, is going to help you a lot.

Indeed. Winter/“Spring” always seem to fly by. Now we’ll have 8 months of Summer.

Melted out there today on my easy run with some hills. Klimat app said 95% humidity. First time in a while I was soaked after a routine run.

The spring glory days for running will be coming to an end soon. The weather here these last 3 weeks has been kick-arse for running though.

I grew up in the South and miss it a lot sometimes, but I do enjoy the extra few weeks of cooler weather I usually get here in April and May.

Morning temp has been in the low 50s the past couple of mornings. Perfect running weather. It's 89 right now but is supposed to drop down to 42 tonight and below freezing tomorrow night. Snow is in the forecast for Friday morning. After that, it looks like we are finally into Spring with daytime highs in the 60s and 70s for the next couple of weeks. Looking forward to that. I have a ton of yard work to catch up on.

The track I use for speed work sits about a quarter mile from the Mississippi. When I head out there for a workout from April-August, I've got to mentally prepare for double punishment: first, from my perennial lack of fitness; and second, from the heat & humidity.

Much better four-miler today: 33:20 (8:20/mile). I was really struggling yesterday for whatever reason. Maybe it was lower back pain, the significant sustained winds of about 10 - 15 mph blowing in my face (#giggity), ramping up weekday mileage (I've run so far 16 miles this week and never more than 11 on average in the past), or maybe I'm just a big ol' pussy. I'm not sure what it was yesterday, but I'm glad I could get back on track today. I had a very nice first two miles and got it in under 16 minutes. I slowed pretty good thereafter however. I hope to be more consistent on Saturday when I run another eight.

Hope y'all are doing well.

Gonna be near 90 degrees on the Mississippi Gulf Coast tomorrow

It has been muggy as hell the past two days. It's supposed to be much cooler (and windy and rainy) on Saturday and Sunday, BTW.

I struggled today too.

Wanted to go for 7 but my stomach decided it was mad around 5.5 miles so I kinda had to speed walk home, which resulted in a slow 6.5 miles.
