Sports Illustrated article from yesterday - LINK

TLDR: College football is still using the BCS if LSU plays Oklahoma State instead of the rematch with Alabama.

I hate the BCS, but would prefer it to have won that national championship (or at least had the chance against OKST)

It finished it off, but people wanted a playoff for a while.

It was dying anyways. People were tired of pollsters + computers decided who they thought were the two best teams were out of 130 at the end of every season. It makes no sense.

4 team playoff is the start of something great for CFB.

Pretty much pointed to as the reason we went to the playoff by a lot of sports talking heads.

Now we just have bullshite arguments about "quality losses" and it's 13 people who decide the polls rather than a few dozen journalists. I think this get said a lot, the BCS formula but just with a 4 team playoff would've been much better. I'm not a fan of the committee.

Another interesting part of the article. What could have been for Miles and this program :-(

...

The game impacted the future of Les Miles just as much, as the former LSU coach himself admits. He thinks the Tigers would have beaten Oklahoma State in the title, and that he might still be the coach if they had. LSU had escaped Tuscaloosa with a 9–6 overtime victory during the regular season, but Alabama’s title-game romp began its current seven-game winning streak in the rivalry, the first five of those coming with Miles on the LSU sideline. Miles was fired in September 2016, one month into his 12th season. “Oklahoma State could have played in that game and changed the course of history in my mind,” he says. “I enjoyed Mike Gundy and am happy the success they’re having [at Oklahoma State], but I’m betting they don’t stop us and I’m betting our pass rush is unstoppable. I think we’re going to win that game. I just do.”

A second national title for Miles in four years would have boosted LSU’s recruiting haul, the coach says, to further “stay in a competitive heap with the guy [Saban] doing the best job in college right now.” That’s why Miles hates to admits the fact that the BCS did get it right in 2011. “Alabama was easily the second-best team in the country,” he says.

His biggest regret in a coaching career that spans nearly four decades remains his team’s preparation leading up to the rematch. He wishes he had better motivated his players to play a team that they’d already beat. “The head coach, me, did a poor job,” he says.

It certainly killed College Football for me, my interest in it as a whole has been GREATLY reduced after that. This year made it even less interesting due to the same team getting a pass and winning it all.

I don't really see it ever being as exciting for me again, as the regular season does not mean much any longer since a committee can just vote you in if you have injuries or just pass the "eye test:".

I liked the BCS. Needed to be expanded to 4, though.

No, but it killed Lsu as a football program. We would have better off playing ok st or not going to title game at all. Been down hill since. Which doesn't make sense to me, since others have been spanked in title games and still are doing ok

It definitely did. Between the lack of interest for a regional game and the fact that many people would have watched to pull for, in this case Oklahoma St, to beat the best of the SEC, it was going to be and was a ratings disaster.

This was the only time in the BSC history that when there was 2 teams very close for the second spot, that the one that would have the biggest impact on viewership wasn't selected. This was an unusual situation, because in all of the other BCS cases, the team that would have the most viewership also would bring in the most fans.

Bama brought lots of fans, I believe allot of kids in Alabama got a trip to NO and 2 days off of school for Christmas so there fans could afford the tickets. That was or third BCS championship in NO and the were multiple times the amount of kids than the first 2 combined.

It killed it. And continuing to find ways to let Alabama in despite not winning their division will kill the current format. The season is more and more meaningless leading to less interest.

Yes. That was the final nail in the coffin. They announced the formation of a playoff about a month later.

No. It just killed the LSU dominance of the 2000s

The LSU-Alabama rematch helped put a sour taste in a lot of people's mouths that helped bring about the 4 team playoff, at least for a lot of folks outside the SEC.

And last year's UGA-Bama game may bring about an expanded 6 or 8 team playoff.

Plus, while it made sense at the time, the seeding was off with Clemson at #1, as they were shown to be the weakest of the 4 teams there.

OK St and Alabama should have played, then the winner should have lost to LSU after LSU had the Alabama-length bye.

Was a big factor. The country was tired of SEC dominance and with two teams that close in talent, the winner of the first game doesn't stand a chance.

the loser of the first game changes strategy and the winner doesn't...
