Just saw on twitter that the entire WNBA made $25 million in revenue last year That's definitely your reason.

Facilities cost, advertising and such probably takes up a larger percentage of WNBAs revenues than it does the NBAs, so not sure if that argument is valid.
Yep. The WNBA's fixed costs are much likely a larger % of revenue than that of the NBA.

at 30%, that's 7.5 mill total payroll.
lebron makes that alone in like 16 games.

I mean, I can't really blame her. She probably dedicates just as much time to her craft as NBA players do. Yet, because of genetics, she will be lucky to make 1 mill in her entire career, while NBA benchwarmers will more than that each year. I imagine that would be a frustrating realization if I was a woman basketball player as well.
It's not really fair, but it's the way things have to be. No other way around it. The WNBA is a product that is largely unwatchable. They simply do not make money. I have no problem with the NBA subsidizing the WNBA, because otherwise they could not exist on their own. Women deserve to have their fun as well.

women also only play a 34 game season compared to men playing 82.

I heard her interviewed last night during a summer league game and it was the usual "we work just as hard as the men", bla, bla, bla.... Of course, the commentators (who were working for NBATV) didn't point out the CLEAR reason WNBA players get paid far less than NBA player.
1. I hope see didn't graduate with a degree in finance or economics from South Carolina. Otherwise, I'd be really worried about the business school at that institution. (EDT: Just checked. She majored in "Mass Comm." That makes sense. She obviously knows much more about tweeting than simple economics)
2. This silliness could be ended by businesses not being so fricking afraid to call people out on their stupidity. James makes $154 million because he's arguably the best player in the NBA and one of the most marketable athletes in the world. He makes $154 mill. He makes other businesses/people 10x's that amount. Maybe 1% of the country knows who Wilson is (or really any WNBA player). The ONLY reason she is paid as much as she gets is because the NBA completely subsidizes the WNBA. The NBA would divest itself of the WNBA if Wilson actually had to be paid what she thinks she deserves.
Based upon her logic, and that of like minded morons, the guy who picks up your garbage or cuts your grass should be paid as much as a heart surgeon because they both "work really hard."

Without the support of the NBA that thing would have folded years ago.
They make their money over in Russia where the pay is better.
Let's see what happens when the NBA pulls it's support.

which is very true. i wonder when these players will just start going to europe where they get paid better

I wouldn’t be biting the hand that feeds you.
The WNBA only exists as a PR machine for the NBA. If you start bitching about being underpaid, you may find yourself playing in an overseas league where female basketball is actually profitable.

Apparently they don't teach supply and demand at South Carolina.

Sounds like she needs to go back to university and take a basic Econ class.

"Fairness" is a completely arbitrary concept and this has nothing to do with genetics. It's a very simple business issue of supply and demand. There is relatively little demand, from a monetary standpoint, for the WNBA. She's either too ignorant or more likely, too ill-informed to realize that her league and any women's professional basketball league would LITERALLY cease to exist if it were mandated that its players be paid the same amount as the male players.
Unfairness would be if she and her league generated as much revenue as James and the NBA and she continued to be paid far less. I don't recall seeing many complaints when female supermodels make FAR more than male models based on "genetics".

It is a bit strange that the league doesn't make more money. They are on 3 major tv networks and have huge sponsors, including the NBA. The attendance part is bad, but most revenue doesn't come from that. They need some better business people to take over..
