re: Would you like to see the Saints give Ingram an extension with higher pay or let him walk?

Would he take a 4 year 28 mil contract with 15 mil guaranteed?
Probably will take a bit more to keep him. He'll get around Freeman money, so between $8-8.5 mil per.
Not sure what it'd look like if we tagged him. Bell's contract is going to throw it a bit out of whack, but I'd think the tag would be around $9 mil if we wanted to keep him one more year (which it looks like we'd have the cap to do).
Beyond that though it may be better to let him walk as he'd be 30 after the end of next year.
He does have less wear and tear compared to other guys, but you have to think maybe by 32 his production may start slipping a good bit compared to what he'd be getting paid.

I agree with the overall sentiment that keeping MT is more important than keeping ingram, but those of you who are acting like ingram can be replaced easily are a little out of touch

I was just about to mention his pass blocking ability.
He is versatile as a pass protector, a receiver out of the backfield, and has averaged 5 yards a carry over the last two years.
It’s also worth mentioning that he could be the Saints all time leading rusher after this season, if he can have 731 yards in 12 games.
I think a lot of the reason Mark gets less credit than he deserves is because of the 3 year stretch of 7-9 seasons, when the team just seemed mediocre on many levels. He proved last year that he is a big part of this teams success.
With that said, if Kamara keeps improving, he’s going to have to become the feature back, with Ingram playing a smaller role. Ingram has always been solid, but Kamara just has the extra “all-pro” type edge.
I’d only want to pay Ingram as much as that role is worth. Plus he’s coming up on 30.
4 year 22 million or somewhere in that neighborhood would be my offer. If it starts getting into the 8 mil a year range, I’d be hesitant, but I do think it’s important to keep them together.

I wouldnt over pay to keep him

I'd like to see if someone steps up and with the O scheme is as productive or more than what MI role is. If we rotate RB's the first 4 games trying to get that production, and don't, I say we give him a 2 year.

Check out Austin Johnson’s contract on that site.

Not unless it is really reasonable. Kamara is a stud #1 back. The more he is on the field the better.

He's a stud, but the option of having 2 fresh #1rb on the field at all times is more enticing.
While individually it may matter, as a team basis I think we're better with both sharing than one carrying a heavier load. It helps with the reduced chance of injury (small and large) and fresher legs into the playoffs.

We will find out one way or another how valuable he is to this offense after the first 4 games of the season. Very important to have a back that is good in every facet this really adds to the depth of the offense. BTW how does Ingram get saddled with a 4 game suspension but that worthless pos Winston for all the crap he has pulled gets only 3 games ??

What RB’s entering the past prime time frame have gotten more than 2 years for 12 mil in the past few years?
Demarco Murray, Lamar Miller, Doug Martin, Matt Forte, and Chris Ivory are the primary comparisons who got it. Didn’t turn out well for their teams.
I give him 2 years 11 million.

Jeez I think you people overlook Ingram is probably the best pass block back in the league. Protecting Brees is worth the little extra dough.
But within reason 7 mil a year at most

So which one of these “Dime a Dozen” back in the league right now do you think would perform on the same level as Ingram? Just because 3rd-5th rounders show SPECIAL abilities to claim starting positions. This crazy narrative has been flying around since Terrell Davis exploded on the seen in the 90s, it just proves that RB is a hard position to scout and many times measurables will not tell the entire story.

issue is that Ingram is likely in his prime right this moment.

Murray - has been a cautionary tale since leaving Dallas. Its more of scheme that helped him than anything
Miller - One good season doesn't equate him to what Ingram is.
Martin - HEAVILY up and down career, injuries pile on for him
Forte - significantly more wear and tear than the average starting RB. But he showed decline at 29-30ish already.
Ivory - glass cannon, not a good blocker or receiver. not applicable.
You give him 2/11, another team is likely to give him 3/21 a lot faster.
The unique thing about Ingram is for his 7 year career, he's touched it 1390 times (roughly 200 times a season) and he hasn't shown those signs of slowing down like some bell cows.
For comparison, Forte had that many touches halfway through his 5th season and still put up 3 more productive and efficient seasons after that.
Bell had that many touches halfway through his 5th year (current season) and you can see him starting to slow down.

All depends on what he wants. He has less mileage than most rbs his age, he can block, and he can catch pretty well. I think a 2 year deal would be ideal
Posted on 6/30/18 at 3:05 pm to cbree88
Give him a reasonable deal for both sides albeit somewhat more team friendly but that is it. If he doesn’t like it, I’d say let him walk. He’s a very good back, but not great, and can be replaced reasonably.

Ingram is a two down back
Honestly one of the dumbest things I've ever read on here. That's not hyperbole. Calling Drew a game manager would be an equal offense as far as I'm concerned. You might actually have a learning disability or maybe you just repeat buzz words your boyfriend says. If it's the former, I'm sorry and your caretaker should monitor your internet use more carefully. If it's the latter, I'll pray you find Jesus because church might be a better use of your time on Sundays instead of watching football.

Would love to keep him but this is his last pay day. I'm not thinking there's a high chance he's here after this year.
Posted on 6/30/18 at 6:10 pm to cbree88
If we can sign him to a cheaper deal than what he is likely asking then yes.
If he won’t budge I’d let him walk, but then it becomes imperative we find another RB. Catch 22

Get back to me after game three..the question is over paying for what he provides..u will see how expendable Ingram is...not mention his untimely turnovers...we over paid for him via draft stock, don't double down on the same error
