Interesting.
I can say that at the gym I go to, that is absolutely not the case. There is a very healthy, warm, inviting culture. There are cliques, of course, but it's mostly just based around class times and relationships developed over time. We're getting tons of new members and a significant amount are sticking around.
I think it's up to the owners and coaches to prevent that sort of shitty culture from developing in their gyms, just like it is their responsibility to preach about form and safe practices. Wherever you go, there will be shitty, judgmental people.
I have on clue if anyone takes any sort of PEDs at my gym.. I doubt it, we only have a handful of people could even sniff a chance at regionals.

It went way beyond just being passive, they were straight up rude and unwelcoming and I’ve watched those same people practically deepthroat new members if they came in wearing the right gear. There’s absolutely a status’ness of it all. Got the old nanos or some regular Nike flats? You must be a poor piece of shite. Got the new ones? Welcome to our inner circle.
Definitely hasn’t been my experience

The one my sister-in-law goes to is like that but not all are like that. Just a side note: I only wear Nano 2s, 3s, or 4s. I have to go to ebay to get my shoes. Anything after Nano 5 is terrible. I hate the triangle on the side of the shoe.

Sounds like you’re at some good gyms then.

I started seeing a lot of PED abuse in the community. I really don’t care if people use, but I don’t think it’s fair to the other competitors who are buying into the ‘clean’ narrative that CF central likes to push. IMO they are selling their souls and abandoning everything CrossFit was supposed to stand for so they can sell Nanos, metcons, and get housewives to pay $200 a month for a membership that should cost $80. There’s this push within the community for ‘positive thinking’ and ‘doing things the right way’ and a lot of fake Christianity because people want to promote status and image. It’s become so yuppie and fake that it’s sick. But there’s an underlying culture of steroids and PEDs throughout the community.

Then you’re either lying or you’re incredibly naive.

I’m not making generalizations. I was involved with CF for about 6 years. I’ve gone to gyms all across the US and I was competing at some high levels. I’m not pulling random stories out of my arse about the PED use.
It’s an epidemic, and drinking the kool aid won’t make it not so.

Great, and I don't think you're lying about that particular statement, but I stand by
I am neither lying, nor am I being naive. I don't even know what a PED is. There is nothing like what you described at the place I go to, and I go to three different times with three completely different groups of people. No religion discussed. No comments on shoes other than,"... do you like those? I need new shoes and am not sure what to get." Zero clothes talk. I mean, nothing at all of the stuff in the paragraph I quoted.

Same with me. A gym closed recently and we took on a lot of them. Very different, and very different skill levels, but most of them joined after one session and stayed.
This is largely in part to the owners/coaches buying in. They're all big on positivity, self-confidence, and doing things the right way. They have no issue calling anyone out for stepping in line. As hulk said, cliques form from, but this is one of the most surprisingly supportive groups I've ever been a part of, and for every person with 3 pairs of brand new Metcons, there's another that's wearing torn up chucks
I would be really surprised if anyone at my gym doped (we had 1 regional athlete and a couple masters), but its not surprising that a lot of people at the high level do. I would imagine its pretty easy to do as CF is still gaining popularity. That being said, I don't think its fair to point at every dude at the top and saying they have to be doping.

Also to clarify, I don't doubt you've witnessed everything you said. Cheating to win competitions, and idolizing material things are human nature so I'm sure it very well is a big issue at a lot of gyms, but I'd like to think that's the exceptions and not the rule.

Are you opposed to Christianity in general or just "fake Christianity"?

What is wrong with this?

The disconnect for me began when I started seeing athletes starting to surpass me, when I was lifting double their weights and dominating their times in just a couple months prior.
It seems as though a lot of your problem with CF stems from jealousy. Maybe my place is different, but it is drilled into our heads to not worry about what your neighbor is lifting. Worry about what you are lifting and making sure your form is correct.

This sounds like an isolated thing which you have projected towards the whole program.
There's good camaraderie in my gym. Im overly observant & aware of what is going on, and I don't see this at all.

Your gym must suck.
I welcome all newcomers... so they can experience my awesomeness.
Seriously, I’m friendly to everyone and will help them out whenever I can.

Only one is close and she’s still there because her husband is a coach.
Most of the others, who are/were close to Regionals, left for places with more of a Comp Training environment.
Of course, however, your programming is what you make of it and going elsewhere won’t overcome a lack of effort.

They could do what powerlifting does. Have a PED tested league and a non-PED tested league. But that would ruin the whole image thing.
Personally, I don’t think I understand PEDs enough to have a real opinion. Playing sports we were always told to stay away from steroids and HGH and stuff like that because of all the side effects. But I’m not really current on today’s stuff. Outside creatine, BCAAs and CLA369, I don’t mess with anything.

Honestly, if it isn’t abused, and you avoid the harsher PEDs, the side effects are minimal. It’s the abusers who self-administer, without proper knowledge and oversight, who pay the price.
If you want to see PEDs in action, look no further than Hollywood. Actors get under the supervision under a Doctor and add mass as needed for certain roles. You then see them 6 months later, having lost a good bit of what they were prior, since they don’t need it for the next role.
I was told that the CF divisions with the most abuse are the levels below the elites. The CF Games test the athletes but the other competitions do not, and you can make some nice $$ bouncing around the smaller events.

True.
I think there are a couple in there that, if they really set their mind to it, could compete hard enough to make it there. I don't think it's in the forefront of anyone's mind/training. Except maybe one girl who is in the free weight room like 4 hours a day, on top of daily WODs. You know who I'm talking about.

Side effects are over blown but unless you are making a living from fitness, it's stupid to out your body through PED use. Today's sarms are no different than steroids btw.
