I’ve witness other members straight up ignore people coming in to try it out if they weren’t wearing the right shoes or lulu lemon.

Does it make me out of touch if I have no idea what lulu lemon is?

As far as CrossFit goes I can’t really say much because I’ve never done it or seen it in person but if it gets people off the couch then it’s better than nothing.

Late to the programming debate. But after reading a few posts I will add my 2 cents. There are very very few gyms in the US that build programming where a regular member can WOD and be a competitive cross fitter. I say very few, but would be shocked if their is one. I have visited boxes around including mayhem and invictus. If you ID all the damn near 50 year olds that eat like chit and just WOD I hold my own in all the gyms.

The separator for gyms and those folks that truly perform is a strong dietary component. Some gyms do a better job with that.

If you believe in functional fitness there is no such thing as soccer mom workouts. Many advanced Crossfit movements are almost useless for everyday function.

But programming that develops a true competitive cross fitter will not be an hour class 4 days a week, I don’t five a shot how many muscle ups or HSPUs you program. If you want to perform you will follow your additional programming.

You can do a basic triplet that can challenge anyone while allowing a 69 year old grandma to enjoy themselves while scaling and feeling good as part of the group. If you don’t find it challenging you probably are doing your own thing any way.

Also late but the last poster really nailed it. I used to get all perplexed about this but one day I realized that CF is really just a gym franchise with specialized programming, a social marketer, and a clothing sponsor. If people who join CF gyms get healthier, great for them.

The CF games is a recent athletic competition. Beyond the name there is really no connection between the two. Joining a CF gym alone will not make you any more likely to successfully compete at any level of the games than being awesome at orange theory or P90x will make you any more likely to become a competitive decathlete.
