I realize the national news is big right now but Louisiana is getting the shaft by more inept government (obligatory thanks Republicans who voted for JBE).

I am tired of watching these dipshits raise taxes without reigning in spending because the constitution is so fricked up.

It’s going to take a republican governor who actually wants to give up power. Our governor is damn near a dictator in Louisiana.

Give it another few grandstanding moves by Sloth to threaten granny or LSU football.

No one is happy right now but the push for a convention isn’t there yet.

JBE vetoing a valid budget because he doesn’t get the pork he wants may do it if the legislators are pissed enough.

Why in the holy hell do people want a constitutional convention when the political twin of Edwin Edwards with shades of Huey Long thrown in is still the Governor of Louisiana?

Our current constitution is an Edwin Edwards product.

It would probably take our idiotic state electing somebody with principles for once.

I warned them that they were voting for a fraud out of misplaced anger and emotion and we would all suffer the consequences of their votes that does not match their core governmental values.

I don't know, but I can't think I want anyone currently in a position to have their hands in such a thing coming anywhere close to doing such a thing.

La. will rein in spending just as soon as people learn how to use the verbs "rein" and "reign" properly.

But seriously, La. will never change. The 1921 Const was messed up so they fixed it in 1975 because the 1921 Const was about 1,000 pages long.

The 1975 Const was about 15 pages. What did La. do with this 15 page document? How many pages is it now?

See what I mean? Just forget it, man. If you don't like it here, move, because it will never change.

Hopefully we can get signature driven voter referendum added to the next LA constitution.

The problem is, no one that has the ego to run for governor, to raise the millions of dollars necessary to run for governor, to spend the time putting together a campaign and cris crossing the state running for governor... no one that will do that, also will have the mindset to give up power once they becoming governor.

You can't raise the amount of money needed to run, by telling the lobbyists and donors, "when I get in, I won't be able to help you because I'm going to give up a chunk of my power".

I know some of you think Vitter was that person. Vitter in 2015 was not the same person as Vitter in 1993. The David Vitter we knew in 1993 might have been able to pull that off. The one in 2015 is just as corrupted by the system as the rest of them.

That's the problem. The entire system - the system that requires millions of bucks to run for office - by the very nature prevents a true small government reformer from ever having success.

And... even if somehow LA got our own Donald Trump - a conservative who could self-finance, they still would need the votes from the legislature to make any significant change. The same legislature that has many people who fancy themselves governor one day, and are already well versed in whoring themselves out for campaign dollars.

The problem is... only the legislature can call a constitutional convention. And if they do... guess who the delegates are going to be? They will draft the language to appoint themselves the delegates, and will ensure they are paid their per-diems while they are there.

And if that's how it will be - and trust me, that's how it will be - then we don't need a convention. We just need the legislature - while in session - to propose whatever they want to do to clean up the constitution - just like they do every year when they propose several BS amendments.

The reality is, these bought and paid dipshits are not honest enough, or intelligent enough, to fix the problem.

Part of the problem is the Amendment process. I remember Buddy Roemer wanted to get rid of many Amendments /statutes that hamstrung the state budget. He actually succeeded initially and then by 1995 they were all back. We, the voting public, both Republican and Democrat are responsible for this.....oh yeah, don't let he crooked politicians get heir grubby little paws on the taxpayer's dollars.....let's protect them with Constitutional Amendments.....then we can really put a boot to their neck......the politicos loved it.

The Legislature is the governor's bitch thanks to the line-item veto, the governor's budget power, and the governor's ability to appoint all of the dozens of unelected boards and commissions that actually run the state. A governor with cahones can extort the individual legislators into doing his bidding by hook or by crook. The legislature is basically just for show. All of the real power is embodied in the governor, the Supreme Court, and the Public Service Commission.

The constitution restrictions on spending are 10%. The other restrictions are legislative and could be undone. It is just a myth and an excuse that the constitution is the problem.
