I despise Alleva as much as the next guy, but this much ado about nothing. Alabama has a similar setup in a couple lots and it works well for the corporate crowd. I've been invited a couple times by folks I do business with for the LSU games and it's been an ok experience. Would I want to do it every week and look for it to be the experience I have with friends at home games? Nope......but to make a few dollars for the university and get the corporate folks involved, it's pretty good.

All of this is contingent on it being cordoned to an area that currently doesn't really attract organic tailgates if you will.

Some Bama fans have already chimed in in other threads saying how it’s too stale and corporate and how it started out as a “for the people” type set up. Fast forward a few years later and it’s become a corporate corridor of tents where prices just kept going up. They eventually priced the normal group of fans out. LSU created a good green space right in the middle of campus and figured out a way to not let that be open to people that have been begging for places to tailgate on the inside of the gates for years. And like I said. There are already a few bigger groups that have been in that area for a while. It’s going to make for some interesting Saturdays come September.

He I following the Alabama model. They did the same thing years ago. High priced tailgating. Driving out the “little guy”. Mostly corporate and high dollar fans. It will work, it not for the common fan.

My main problem with the idea is that someone local wasn't chosen. The business should have been kept in state instead of Texas.

There are plenty of Louisiana catering companies and restaurants.

How exactly is this service hurting you? Just do what you normally do on game day, and everything will be fine.

Yep, did not even know this was a thing till this thread, have no intention of seeking it out or seeing what it's all about, I have two tailgates I go to that I can guarantee will be totally unaffected by this and that I will continue to attend. Will have zero affect on my tailgate experience.

This!
LSU fans are the "chicken littles" of college sports.
It's just another variation of "catastrophe syndrome".
Then again, most of the members of The Rant believe in conspiracy theories. They thrive on them.

We are trying to keep up and stay on top of programs that pay their coaches 10 million a year while keeping up with the modern athletic facility war. Gotta create revenue wherever possible.

He is an idiot. The only ones dumber than Joe are his boss and those fans that offer support to his decisions by forking over money for all the taxes he’s implementing through drastically higher prices while greatly lessening the experience. Cancel your tickets and stay home until there’s a change in leadership. It’s been liberating.

He’s following the Alabama model.

Oh wait, you were serious.

This is the passive bullshite that has caused the decline of the LSU atmosphere for years. People should be annoyed by this just like they should have with the parking. It’s one poor decision after another from Alleva and some people just sit there and say well how does it affect me.

They have already done this for the Greeks and other student orgs large enough to actually host tailgates.

And I agree. This thing will slowly creep across campus. Alleva pays only lip service to LSU's game day experience, and LSU seems to think tailgating is just lost revenue. They will do anything they can to monetize it even if crowds shrink in the process.

Yup, within the next 5-10 years everyone will have a "designated" tailgate space that you have to purchase before the season. They will have rules in place to make it more "family friendly" and more plain. Those who do not abide could lose their tailgate spot, those that tailgate without a permit will be removed.

It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out with this shitty home schedule this year.

Man, we play Georgia, Alabama, Ole Miss and MSU at home. And LaTech could be fun.

That is not bad. Two of those are top 3 teams.

I agree. Another idea is run it through LSU itself. Hire students to set it all up, have LSU logos on everything, etc.

LSU sports will sell their soul for a dollar.

I'm hearing Joe is in intense negotiations with Hamas and Al Qaeda over who is going to get the "official terrorist organization of LSU football" title.

I will not personally be using this service, nor will it change or disturb our current tailgate. I don’t think it will go over as well for LSU fans as possibly it does with other schools and their fan base.

But, some of these decisions are solely based on how disrespectful our fans are. Go look at campus after a Saturday night game and look at how much garbage is left. This is probably being explored as an extra revenue source and a way to combat the litter issue.

Our fans do leave a fricking trash pile. It’s embarrassing.

But just hire LSU/Louisiana people to do this set up.

thus far good ole Joe has found a way to go completely overboard on the monetization of every single thing related to LSU football including parking and concessions

So we want top of the line concessions but they should be free

Do you want a competitive program not? Sorry that costs money

Again, the guy doesn’t get it. Making a quick buck will have him losing money in the long term. Another example of his incompetence.

As dumb as this move is relative to people actually using it, I think JA is trying to exhaust all other revenue options before jacking up game ticket prices even more.

He’s attacking the people with deep pockets who don’t want the hassle of setting up tailgates. Although it becomes pointless if the people have to haul their own food and drinks to the tailgate.
