When the endless wave of Russian tanks comes crashing over the Oder River, those GI jobs at Ramstien won't seem so cushy.

It reminds me of the comedian who said he was tired of thanking everyone for their serve. There's a difference between a guy flying a jet off an aircraft carrier, dodging missles and bullets, to deliver bombs, and the guy standing on the flight deck pointing the way, "The battle field is that way!"

Also, why does the news have to mention that the victim is a veteran? Does it make a difference. Like when the two LSU players kicked that guy's arse. The news had to say over and over that he was a Marine veteran.

You sound just like someone who's overcompensating for their failures in life.

Nobody care what you think about the military and the people who volunteer to serve in said military.

Well, to be fair, there are a lot of these guys sitting at the bottom of Pearl Harbor, so.......

That and those guys flying the jets aren't gonna get very far without the other guys who doing "Cush" shite like fueling up said plane, loading munitions, driving the ship.......

In summary, you're kinda stupid.

Yep, that wasn’t a good example, guys on the flight deck are doing a high risk job during peacetime, they expect casualties on every cruise

It cuts both ways. If a serial killer once talked to a Marine recruiter, then his name will be forever reported as, "Former Potential Marine Corps Poolee John David Stutts..."

There hasn't been a draft in 45 years, so everyone of them joined knowing they could be deployed.

This statement is only half correct. True, the draft ended around 1973, but for a long time Nat'l Guardsmen weren't being sent into war zones.

I don't think many, if any, Guard units were sent to Vietnam. Desert Storm used Guard troops, but it wasn't anything like what happened in Afghanistan and Iraq. I knew guys in college during the '80s who joined the Guard for the tuition assistance. Going to a war zone was barely considered a possibility. At worst, they expected they might be activated to replace and perform the function of a regular Army unit that was sent on a combat deployment.

Obviously, anyone joining now should EXPECT to get deployed, but that wasn't always the case.

I think to myself, wow, they must be really suffering, having a European trip on the government's dime.

They are not deployed, they are active, working a cush job.

I see you have no idea what the Guard units are doing over there.

Trust me, they're not living it up on the Riviera. Unless you think a multiple month rotation to Hohenfels or similar is living it up.

FWIW working on a flight deck is hella dangerous.

Right. I bet an aircraft carrier loses a couple of sailors per per just during normal operations. Back in the '90s, I was at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for work and a guy got killed on the Nimitz while it was tied up to the pier. shite happens.

How many sailors got killed on the Forrestal and the Oriskany during Vietnam? No enemy action involved, but those guys were just as dead as if Charlie was responsible.

I have a friend who's an officer in the Florida National Guard and he "deployed" to Qatar recently. I'm not even sure if he took a weapon or not.

The Unit takes the Armory. Weather or not they carry is up to Command Theatre or whatever.

He's cav too so I always give him shite about his stupid hat and spurs.
To be fair, he spent part of the deployment at Camp Lemonnier in Djibouti.

A lot of Air Force deployments are based out of somewhere in Europe, but fly back and forth from the sand pits.

But I am sure you knew this already.
