I like the guys who say " I fought for my country" all the while they were am admin clerk doing paperwork.

Fighting for country actually involves slinging lead and stackin bodies.

Serving your country involves serving the ones who are fighting.

Unless your a puddle pirate. You get no say so in the matter.

Spoken like the guy running the ROWPU for the FOB.

Well national guard and reserves are for the guys who didn’t have the balls to join active duty.

Huuuuuuuge difference being an active duty military member versus a tampon.

During summertime they’re not that bad. Go in Feb. though and you find a new meaning to the word miserable.

Definitely don't have the balls to do PT every morning or the same routine everyday. That takes a huge commitment.

I enjoy being Part Time Military and Full Time Project Manager.

Nope only active. I have been around plenty reserves and guard members though.

ETA: I don’t think guard units should deploy to combat zones due to lack of training required.

some of those NG/Reserve units got sent to some real shitholes and torn the frick up in the middle and latter part of last decade. They aren't all sitting in Spain or Japan. I believe there was a Pennsylvania NG unit that really took it on the chin in Iraq, as an example.

I'm not saying the NG is doing nothing but cush jobs in Europe, etc. I know there are reserve units in theater, having a shite job, or even being shot at, or having IED's blowing them up.
I have first hand knowledge of the Penn NG unit in Iraq. I watched the SCUD come in and explode about a half mile away. We helped bring the wounded and dead in to the hospital we were working at.

I see and hear it all the time, "My (husband/wife/son/daughter/etc) is in the National Guard. They have been activated and stationed overseas!"

I'm thinking they are in Afghanistan or Iraq. Then I find out they are in Germany, Italy, Spain, etc.

I’m not sure where you are getting your news from, or who is lying to you, but as a Louisiana Guardsman deployed overseas right now, I know of zero people who are in Germany, Italy, Spain, etc. for a deployment. Currently, the Louisiana Guard has Soldiers all over the Middle East.

Many states are partnered with Nations for training partnerships, and Louisiana is not partnered with anyone in Europe.

Your information is flawed, and you should be ashamed for blindly spreading false information.

So why am I looking at a bunch of Reserve Drill Sergeants running circles around the AD drills they were called in to support? Looks like the tampon here is you...

I did both active duty and national guard. I can’t say how it is now, but when I came off active duty to guard in the early 90s, the biggest difference I noticed was the guard was not as stringent on military discipline. The first guard unit I joined after active duty though was a round-out Armor battalion for 2nd Armor Div. so the actual combat training was almost on the same level of proficiency that is grown accustomed to on active duty. But I will say that as the 90s progressed and the military cutbacks Clinton implemented eroded that level of readiness considerably.

There is a difference. The flight deck guy is in more danger.

If an employer says you can't go home to see your sick wife or kid at that moment, you can just quit and hop on a plane, RIGHT?

If you try that with the military..... You're a tard sometimes.

And I'll just leave this here, dipshit OP.

video of soldier from Brandon, MS watching his baby being born via FaceTime b/c he was stuck in an airport.

First of all: You're retarded
Second: frick you

I'm on a ship that regularly deploys with reservists onboard. Sometimes this ship doesn't make port calls for months at a time. When we do, we're very rarely granted much liberty. During our time underway, reservist (just like active duty members)miss funerals, birthdays, ball games, weddings, their children being born, and much more.

You sound like a little bitch and I'd bet there are girls (reservists) on this ship who would whip your arse.

Ps.

The guy on the flight deck pointing towards the battle has one of the most dangerous jobs in the military.

Yeah, no.

That "guy on the flight deck pointing the way" can at any time be pressed into duty holding a firearm in the face of an enemy offensive. He's demonstrated his willingness and ability to face ANY enemy possible face to face merely by volunteering himself for duty to the nation.

Thank you to all who are serving or have served regardless of station and duty station. The choice to serve is personal, the point at which that service is performed is not their own choice as members of an organization.

During the first gulf war I was watching the news and the story was about an army guard unit in Shreveport about to get deployed, they had the cameras out while they were loading up, families there all boudeting , very touching scene, turns out they were being “deployed” to Ft. Polk for the weekend

Not true at all. They were definitely set to deploy to the Middle East. That's a fact. Also, they were at Polk for a minute before going to Fort Hood where they were training for deployment.

I can see you are ignorant of history, but you'd think you might remember that the Gulf War was over within 2 and a half months.
It ended before they actually left. But they were set to go.
