I was active duty and deployed to Al Dhafra. We could purchase 3 drinks a night, go off base, and wear civilian clothes while off duty. The allowances were good, but being away from family for months is the hardest part. OT 5s became "desert dimes."

I've never before seen the OT trolled like this, so easily. Y'all usually sniff it out quickly.

The only thing I am really tired of in my OP, is the news having to state the victim is a veteran. Why does that matter? What if they were both veterans?

As for the guy on the flight deck pointing, "The battle field is that way!" I am quoting a comedian (forget name), some one posted the video here on the OT.

Remember the Camp Bastion flightline got overrun by 14 Taliban members dressed in US Army uniforms in 2010? They killed the CO of one of the squadrons and a maintainer who was a 620 Marine, crazy.

I did not remember that, just read the story and remember hearing something about it but not much else.

Story said they had to pass out magazines and rifles. That's the crappy thing about the wing, they trust you with a multi-million dollar aircraft, but not a freaking rifle and ammo.

I'm thinking they are in Afghanistan or Iraq. Then I find out they are in Germany, Italy, Spain, etc.
Why do you care?

I have a friend whose brother has been to Afghanistan twice and just left for Germany a couple weeks ago.

What's the issue?

I know, this a classic jimmie rustling topic, and the jimmies that seem to get rustled the most are remf jimmies, and the fact that most OTers we’re almost going to be Navy seals except for... after a couple of pages these dumpster threads always catch on fire

Definitely don't have the balls to do PT every morning or the same routine everyday.

What is this "same routine" that you speak of?

I wish. I got screwed every day in unique new ways. The only real routines we had was PT, 9am formation, and back when we did Sgt's Time every Thursday (and even that was different every week). Everything else was last minute shite and whatever was on the training calendar.

I’ve never heard anyone refer to an active duty assignment in Europe as a deployment. That’s not what “deployment” is and that’s not what guardsmen are used for. Those locations are already staffed by active duty personnel who are “stationed” there.

When I was stationed in Germany in 2005 our local active duty MP company deployed to Iraq and were replaced with a PA guard unit. I don't know the official terminology but all those guys referred to their year in Germany as a deployment which didn't really bother me because they were unaccompanied and lived in an old open bay barracks.

Hell my favorite was coming up with an awesome training plan for my troops for the QTB, the BDE CDR "signing off on it" like it was a promise, then having to trash the whole thing because of "higher priorities"

Rinse and repeat every quarter.

My son's army aviation reserve unit just returned from a year deployed in Afghanistan and Iraq. His unit operated in support of Iraqi unit movement into mosul. They willingly and voluntarily put their lives on hold for a year and served overseas. They are a fine example of Americans and they should be commended. Their service makes it possible for people to post stupid shite at lunch on a message board about deployments really being free vacations.

I remember the LANG doing convoys in east Afghanistan in 2013. If I recall correctly one of the young men was kia’d shortly before finishing their convoy mission (right before entry point to BAF)

That's my Unit. We were running MRAPs (CETS) for Convoy Security.

Ets: SPC. Christopher Drake. Before getting to FOB Gazni.
