I want O gone as much as anyone. But I refuse to dump all of this schit going on with the program in his lap.

Regardless of what you believe, the program was beginning to circle the drain a year or two before O got here.

The admin that hired O has been in place for years now. They are incompetent. They hired O...therefore they get the lion's share of the blame. He didn't hire his own dumb self.

Now he hasn't really done schit to improve things yet...but let's not act for one moment like we were flying high before Dumb-O.
We were averaging 4 losses a year from 14-16 (3 in the two previous years...not exactly elite). Our SEC Record: 14-10.....nothing to write home about either. That's mostly on Miles.

I'm not saying O was dealt a schitty hand to play by any means.....but we wasn't given a royal flush either.

Miles was slipping....not only on the field but recruiting too. He wasn't locking up this state at all. Saban was frequently poaching quality players out of LA...as were other SEC coaches...players we should have been locking up. And say what you want about the ranking of Miles' classes his last few years....it wasn't translating on the field in terms of hardware.
He brought in a Purdue reject to guide the team for god's sakes.
His constant meddling with the O put Aranda in an untenable position frequently.

Juniors kept leaving by the droves (still wonder why that always was with Miles) My question...how do other lesser programs get their juniors to stay?

We have struggled at the QB position for YEARS. You're not going to win championships with a marginal signal caller who can't throw under pressure when he HAS to. DE was not the answer. This problem coupled with the one-dimensional nature of our offense cost us games.

So we've basically had average coaching since the 2014 season.

Something got broken in the program after 1/9...and its yet to be fixed.

Spin and downvote away!!!

You could have left it there. Pretty sure the whole LSU nation knows this, which is why the majority of it was pissed with O was hired full-time. Most people knew O doesn't have what it takes to right the ship and bring us back to where we were from 2002-2011.

TLDR. Decline started 1/9/12. So you're right.

Miles lack of diversifying offense
Chavis refusal to recruit front line players on defense in the trenches
are the two biggest

Because their Juniors aren't as good which is why they are lesser programs. Pretty easy stuff.

I mean We definitely weren’t as good as we were 2005-2007, but we had sorta ebbed and flowed. 2010-2013 was 4 very solid year. 2015 was below expectations but again essentially a 10-3 season.

We had sorta plateaued more than declined

Yes, Miles needed to be replaced by a top of the line HC prospect. We got Da Coach O.

Yes. But the "decline" was that we probably weren't going to compete for an SEC Championship while Saban was around. Les would probably still average 9-10 wins/year.

He's the head coach now, so....he should get it all. Allowing for excuses to come into play can derail any valid critique of O.

quote:

The admin that hired O has been in place for years now. They are incompetent. They hired O...therefore they get the lion's share of the blame.

No one disagrees here.

quote:

He didn't hire his own dumb self.

But he did ask for the job, at the school he "loved," knowing he'd have to answer to the fans and meet expectations. If he didn't want the job, or the expectations, then he shouldn't have openly campaigned for the job. So, while the board is certainly at fault, so is O.

I'm not saying O was dealt a schitty hand to play by any means.....but we wasn't given a royal flush either.

Miles was slipping....not only on the field but recruiting too. He wasn't locking up this state at all. So is Les a good coach with bad talent? A bad coach who put together great talent? Which is it? And why couldn't we determine this before the hire, and then execute based on a full assessment of the team and the talent?

So we've basically had average coaching since the 2014 season.

Something got broken in the program after 1/9...and its yet to be fixed.

So we hired from within in multiple coaching positions? And Ed O is one of the ones who decided to do that. Like half of that "average" coaching staff is still in place, and some have received promotions. Think about that. That's on ED O, not Alleva or the board.

it is. we are on the same course had we kept miles. in fact the fans are wanting to go back to miles ball it seems. today everyone is embracing "defense will carry us, mcmillan will manage the game". it's just like old times.

I get all of that.

But we replaced Miles with someone worse.

And you are right. It is a culture problem. And now the garbage will be at O's feet because he had an opportunity to do all the stuff he said he was going to do.

The fans didn't get up behind a podium and put words in his mouth like he changed from his OM days, which he clearly hasn't.

The AD needs to quit being dumb and hiring these bums. When O lost to UF during his interim year, that should have been the nail in his coffin to become the LSU HC.

But no... Let's make excuses and keep moving the goalposts.

Miles did start the decline, but let's not pretend that O hasn't had time to stall the descent. No. He just hit the gas and floored it.
