Only potential GOAT at their position is Trout. Kershaw isn't even one of the top four pitchers in the last 30 years. Clemens, Maddux, Pedro and Unit were all better than him by a clear margin. And as much as I like Altuve, he has a long way to go to pass Craig Biggio as the greatest 2B in Astros history much less be in the GOAT conversation.

A lot of people talking about Trout needing to "up his game", I'm pretty sure he has had the best start to a career ever. He just needs to maintain that over a long period, which isn't going to be easy, but I wouldn't bet against Mike Trout.

I don't think he's had a season as good as what Griffey did from 1996-1999 either and arguably his strike shortened 1994 season or his 1993 season.

Take a look at this WAR comparison chart between Kershaw, Clemens, Maddux, Pedro and Unit.
Kershaw is dead last for every season except the #1 best season where he slightly edges Maddux. Of course Kershaw is 29 years old and he's certainly capable of putting up more elite seasons but there's a sizable gap in peak between Kershaw and the four pitchers I mentioned.

I think Kershaw has a ways to go to match the career of the four you mentioned, no doubt, but his ERA's for the past five years are: 1.83, 1.77, 2.13, 1.69 and 2.31. Knowing that, it's hard for me to agree with "sizable gap in peak"

That the Angels haven't been very good the past few seasons doesn't help with Trout's image. If they continue winning this year and Trout stays on his current pace then I'm sure people will come around. He has potential to be GOAT material and would have a HOF case if he retired today.

Kershaw's career ERA shits on all those dudes and he has a better WHIP than them all. Those are important stats to look at.
